2nd in command at Al Qaida - Video Broadcast

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - The deputy leader of al-Qaida called President Bush a failure and a liar in the war on terror in a video statement released Friday, and he compared Pope Benedict XVI to the 11th century pontiff who launched the First Crusade.

** Nothing like harping back over old history, seems that our jihadist pal cant see the difference between what happened in the 11th century and whats happening today.

“Can’t you be honest at least once in your life, and admit that you are a deceitful liar who intentionally deceived your nation when you drove them to war in Iraq,” Ayman al-Zawahri said in a portion of the video released by the Washington-based SITE Institute.

Al-Zawahri also criticized Bush for continuing to imprison al-Qaida leaders in prisons, including al-Qaida No. 3 Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged Sept. 11 mastermind who was captured in Pakistan in March 2003.

** Must sting losing a lot of the top leaders, still plenty more cells at Club Gitmo for the rest of you loons.

“Bush, you deceitful charlatan, 3 1/2 years have passed since your capture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, so how have you found us during this time? Losing and surrendering?” he said, according to the SITE Institute.

Al-Zawahri's remarks about Benedict were a clear response to the pontiff's comments earlier this month that sparked outrage across the Muslim world. In that speech, Benedict cited a Byzantine emperor who characterized some of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad as "evil and inhuman," particularly "his command to spread by the sword the faith."

"If Benedict attacked us, we will respond to his insults with good things. We will call upon him, and all of the Christians to become Muslims who do not recognize the Trinity or the crucifixion," al-Zawahri said, according to the SITE Institute.

**So much for your own prophets words about respecting other faiths...?

Al-Zawahri also called a U.N. resolution to send peacekeepers into Sudan's war-torn Darfur region a "Crusader plan" and implored the Muslims of Darfur to defend themselves.

** These are the same peace loving people who are committing genocide against the people of Darfur...

"Do not allow the government of Khartoum to interfere, nor the governments of the Western Crusaders to interfere in your business. Be ready to stop the Crusaders campaign against you," he said, according to the SITE Institute.

Still hitting his head a bit too hard on the prayer mat. Strange how this comes after the other top Al Qaida loon admitted that the wars not going to well...

CAIRO, Egypt - The new leader of al-Qaida in Iraq said in an audiotape posted on the Internet Thursday that more than 4,000 foreign insurgent fighters have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

**Keep em coming less dole scum over here in the UK and we have plenty of bullets left.

"The blood has been spilled in Iraq of more than 4,000 foreigners who came to fight," said the man, who identified himself as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir — also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri — the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, though the voice could not be independently identified.

The Arabic word he used indicated he was speaking about foreigners who joined the insurgency in Iraq, not coalition troops.

It was believed to be the first major statement from insurgents in Iraq about their losses.

Oh and here is a bit on the peacefull and ever so fucking tolerant ROP,

Paul Flynn MP - Liar and moonbat, oh and did I mention libelist?

My local looney leftie MP, a man who thinks that poping over to North Korea to show solidarity with one of the most repressive places on Earth is okay has been at it again.

Seems that Mr Flynn the libelist Zanu New Labour MP for Newport Gwent is calling on Blair to go before May, indeed I would agree with him on that one point alone I would like to see Blair go before then and a snap election held forthwith. Let the electorate decide on the future of this fine nation that has been divided and fed lies and double standards and sleeze in record levels since 1997 on who they want to govern them.

Again he snipes at the fine work British troops are doing in the Helmand Province and again refers to it as a British Vietnam. Never mind the fact that the Taliscum are losing, pulling back and have lost vast numbers to our fine troops. Indeed only the other day it was reported in one of our national papers about a few UK troops holding off an attack by about 200 Taliscum .

Then he wanders off to the usual leftist clap trap of lets all sit down read the Guardian and hug a terrorist, he quotes "The Prime Minister has been tough on terrorism but not on the causes of terrorism." saying that we need to resolve the middle east ie the Palestine-Israeli situation first, saying we need to win over the hearts and minds of the jihadists.

Well if it has escaped Mr Flynns notice the jihadists are quite happy to chop off heads and post the videos on the net, torture people and blow up planes and anything else they can and despite thirty plus years of talking nothing has changed that.

Libelist MP Paul Flynn on top of the Newport Transporter Bridge - now if only he would do the decent thing and jump.

Lets hug North Korean communists

and here is his apology:
Recently Paul Flynn was involved in a libel case where he made comments about an endowment pensions company, the result of which he had to pay out damages. He was sued after he posted an attack on such companies on his website, claiming they were out to "re-rob" the victims of endowment mis-selling by dishonestly over-charging them for their services.
But he made the mistake of referring to well-regarded company Endowment Justice Ltd, which represents mis-selling victims on a "no-win, no-fee" basis. The company and its directors sued and at London's High Court Mr Flynn made a public apology for the "unjustified attack" on the claimants' integrity.
The MP as part of the settlement put the following statement on his website: On this website in February this year, I made certain statements referring to Endowment Justice Limited, one of the companies which offers assistance in obtaining compensation for those people who were mis-sold endowment policies. I have been campaigning against companies providing professional services in relation to endowment policy compensation claims, but my facts about Endowment Justice were incorrect. As a result, I wrongly accused the company and its directors Nick Keca, Marianne Fitzjohn and Graeme Webber of having previously mis-sold endowment policies and now dishonestly overcharging those self-same victims to help them obtain compensation. I am happy to clarify that neither Endowment Justice Ltd or any of its directors were ever involved in any aspect of endowment policy selling. It was therefore false and unfair to suggest that they had profited from the historic mis-selling of endowment policies. I was also incorrect in stating that Endowment Justice, which offers its services in recovering compensation on a “no-win, no-fee” basis, could charge its customers up to 40% of any compensation gained. Endowment Justice in fact charge customers 17.5% plus VAT or 22.5% plus VAT of any compensation gained. I was wrong to give the unintended impression that the company or its directors acts in any way improperly or unlawfully in providing services to those seeking compensation for endowment policy mis-selling. I would like to apologise to Endowment Justice for my allegations, and to Mr. Keca, Ms. Fitzjohn and Mr. Webber for any embarrassment or distress caused by my false remarks.

Terrorists attacked the Soldiers with rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and small-arms fire; the Soldiers returned fire and disabled the terrorists’ vehicle.

Four terrorists fled the scene by running into a nearby palm grove.

As Soldiers investigated the scene, they found a terrorist’s body and seized weapons inside the vehicle, consisting of a PKM rifle, two AKM rifles, an RPG launcher, two RPG rounds, a rocket and ten AK-47 magazines.

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BAGHDAD
– Iraqi Police, teamed with coalition advisers, captured two individuals suspected of promoting sectarian violence by kidnapping and murdering Iraqi citizens during a raid in Ghazaliyah on Sep. 25.

Iraqi Police conducted simultaneous raids on separate objectives and captured the two men without incident. There were no civilian, Iraqi forces, or coalition forces casualties from this operation.

MND-B soldiers detain terrorist, seize 2 large weapons caches

Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO

BAGHDAD
– Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, detained a terrorist after he attempted to place an improvised-explosive device in southwestern Baghdad at approximately 1:30 p.m. today.

In an earlier incident, MND-B Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, discovered two large weapons caches west of Baghdad Sunday.

The first cache contained seven 125mm artillery rounds, 45 122mm mortar rounds, 15 120mm anti-personnel mines, 11 60mm mortars, 46 120mm fuses, 103 rocket-propelled grenades, 100 RPG boosters, six RPG fuses, 15,000 RPK rounds and ten cases of 7.62mm rounds.

Eight killed and three wounded during raid in Baqubah

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces killed four suspected terrorists and wounded two others during a raid the morning of Sept. 27 targeting a terrorist tied to extremist leaders of al-Qaida in Iraq in Iraq’s Diyalah and Salah ah Din provinces.

As Coalition forces approached the objective, they received sporadic small arms fire from throughout the neighborhood and sustained small arms fire from the objective building. Coalition forces, through their Iraqi interpreters, announced they were in the area, whereupon the shooting ceased from most locations except the target building. Coalition forces killed two terrorists during this engagement. Due to the heavy volume of enemy fire from the target building, they also engaged the building with Coalition aircraft.

Coalition aircraft fired multiple rounds at the targeted building, neutralizing the enemy threat. Ground forces then cleared the objective of enemy activity. Upon a search of the objective buildings, they found two additional terrorists killed and two terrorists wounded. They also found four women killed and another wounded as a result of the air strike. Coalition medics immediately administered care to the wounded female, stabilizing her on site before moving her to a nearby medical facility.

Ground forces treated the two wounded terrorists for minor injuries and detained them. Weapons and a global positioning system were also found in the target building.

Coalition forces strive to mitigate risks to civilians while in pursuit of terrorists. Terrorists continue to deliberately place innocent Iraqi women and children in danger by their actions and presence.

The Joys of the Dhimmi West(Opera cancelled for fear of exploding(sic) muslim anger)

Original post here: http://curmudgeonjoy.blogspot.com/2006/09/idemeneo-and-poltroons.html

I have copied the article below:

Kirsten Harms, the director of the Deutsche Oper, has decided to cancel performances of Mozart’s Idomeneo, lest Muslims be offended at the scene in which the King of Crete holds aloft the decapitated heads of Poseidon, Jesus, Buddha and Mohammad. Frau Harms proceeds on the fairly safe assumption that any offence that may be taken is unlikely to end in pagans running riot, Christians menacing directors, or Buddhists firing Kalashnikovs into the air in a ritual of practiced malevolence. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung,
The decision is based on a general threat-analysis by the State Office of Criminal Investigation, not on threats against Charlottenburger Haus in general or the production in particular. [1]
In other words, before the Mohammedans have even had the time to whet their knives or sharpen their damnations, the poltroons of the West are grovelling for their pardon. No specific threat is required. The mere presence of the Mohammedans is felt to be enough. A similar thing happened last year, when Marlowe’s Tamburlaine the Great was expurgated of remarks and scenes derogatory of Mohammed. [2] These are signs of things to come, perhaps.

Here's Mo(PBUH)

Truely the spirit of Jens lives on.... Who's Jens? The dhimmi who crawled on his knees for lack of a backbone over the piss poor cartoons of Mohammed(PBUM as Jack Straw said)

http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2006/02/jens-byskov-dhimmi-of-year.html

** Update: A reminder of the late Winston Churchills words on Islam from his book The River War.

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.

Jack Idema Blogburst

Burka Red Whit and Blue.jpg

One of the things worth stressing about the case of Jack Idema and Brent Bennett, the two US Special Forces soldiers held illegally in Afghanistan, is that the injustices they’ve suffered weren’t aberrations. All across Afghanistan, right now, the freedoms men like Idema, Bennett and the Northern Alliance won for the Afghan people are being rolled back in an effort to appease Islamists and ‘former’ Taliban members.

A case in point is the reintroduction of the infamous Office for the Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue, a move which prompted the following objection from the Afghan Bar Association [pdf]:

The Afghan Bar Association seriously and completely opposes the establishment of a new Afghan Government Office for the Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue. This Office, which was established by the Taliban terrorist government was known as Amrer Bil Maroof Wa Nahee Anil Monka, Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue. This office, under our Taliban oppressors, became infamous for corruption, abuse of power, terrorism, torture, and murder. Under the Taliban, this office was responsible for countless deaths of innocentAfghans for crimes ranging from wearing nail polish, to failing to pray or shaving beards. The Afghan people, after 25 years of war and struggle, know this office as the face of terror and oppression, a terrorist operation, which struck fear in the hearts of all Afghans and imposed their vicious and brutal will upon our people with the whip, the braided cable, and the machinegun.

Those of us who’ve followed the Idema case for some time now shouldn’t find this, latest move of President Karzai’s surprising — It was with his blessing that Jack, Brent and the rest of Task Force Sabre were subjected to a trial under Taliban ‘law’, presided over by a Taliban judge, and this only a few months into Karzai’s Presidency. Two years down the line, it seems as though the re-Islamisation of Afghanistan is gathering pace.

These two issues — the campaign to free Jack and Brent and the campaign to keep Afghanistan free of Taliban-style religious police — came together in Washington recently, when a group of American and Afghan women, dressed in burkas, handcuffed themselves to railings outside the Afghan embassy:

The Taliban executed women for wearing nail polish. A FREE THEM NOW spokeswoman said, “Mr. Hamid Karzai simply tortures them and imprisons them, not for nail polish, but for speaking out, divorce, adultery, sex outside of marriage, and many other things. Americans must never fear exercising the Constitutional rights paid for with American blood for more than 200 years.” The women remained anonymous under the Burkas throughout the protest.
[…]
“We demand justice, and if it takes a dozen Burkas surrounding the Afghan Embassy on September 11th 2006, then 300 Burkas surrounding the Afghan Embassy on October 12th, the anniversary of the first bomb being dropped on the Taliban in the war of liberation, and then 1000 more Burkas surrounding the Afghan Embassy on November 12, 2006, the anniversary of the American liberation of Kabul, then we will do it. But the terror and oppression must be stopped.”

The protesters handed the Afghan Ambassador, Sayed Jawad Tayeb, a videotape of Afghan Supreme Court Judges discussing the Idema case and stating that Jack is completely innocent. Further protests are planned in Washington, New York and London for October 16th. For more information, readers should visit the Free Them Now homepage.

Team Hunting Illegal Migrants Being Disbanded

The hunt for more than 1,000 foreign prisoners illegally in the UK who were freed without being considered for deportation has been quietly wound down, even though hundreds are still on the loose and no one has a clue where they are.

The team of 60 police and probation and immigration officers who were spearheading the hunt have been disbanded. Officers have returned to normal duties (One would have assumed catching these people to be part of their normal duties?) and the police station they were using has been vacated.

  • Only 107 of the 1,023 have been found and considered for deportation, leaving 916 outstanding, although Home Office sources claimed that they knew where some of them were. Twenty of the 107 have been deported. The Home Office has refused to identify any of the criminals.
  • There are 93 robbers, 41 burglars, four kidnappers, more than 100 people with convictions for violence and more than 200 who were jailed for drugs offences.
  • Home Office data showed that 237 of the foreign criminals were failed asylum seekers and 54 were still having applications considered.
  • The Home Office is still not sure what offences 103 of the prisoners were jailed for and says it does not know how many have re-offended since being freed.
You could not make it up!

Taliban Lose - BBC Go Into Mourning.

KABUL, Afghanistan — NATO aircraft have killed more than 60 suspected insurgents over the last several days in an increasingly volatile southern Afghan province, the military alliance said Sunday.

Afghanistan's Ministry of Defense said 40 Taliban fighters were killed by NATO airstrikes in Helmand that "completely destroyed" a militant base in the district of Grishk on Saturday. Maj. Luke Knittig, a NATO spokesman, said the alliance also estimated that about 40 fighters were killed.

A NATO helicopter, meanwhile, fired on about 20 insurgents who had attacked a NATO patrol in neighboring Naw Zad district on Friday, killing 15 of the suspected insurgents, the alliance said.

In a third incident, an attack helicopter fired on a group of insurgents who shot at a support helicopter on Thursday, killing eight of the militants in nearby Sangin district, the statement said. There were no NATO casualties in the attacks.

**The BBC covered it this way reporting that "Taleban rebels" were killed - since when did drug dealing sociopaths who chop off heads become rebels? Then followed it up with a dig that numbers could not be "independently verified." before whining on about how hundreds of people had been killed in Afganistan this year, without mentioning that most of them were the drug peddlers of the Taliban.

I would also take this opportunity to have a dig at my looney ageing MP who it appears is starting to suffer from senility, a man who has called for drugs to be legalised, for our nation to abandon the people of Afganistan to the headchoppers, who has used the phrase "Our Vietnam" to describe the war in Afganistan despite the fact that our troops are doing rather well thank you very much . A man who is quite happy to make political capital out of the deaths of UK/US servicemen and women for his own ends, a proven liar and libelist. Paul Flynn MP you are wrong.

Terrorist scum lose(original story here)

Finally a well done to UK troops taking out another terrorist scumfuck in Iraq. Jihad denied for that motherfucker. British forces kill terrorist scum

BAGHDAD, Iraq - British forces shot and killed a leading al-Qaida terrorist Monday more than a year after he embarrassed the U.S. military by making an unprecedented escape from a maximum security military prison in Afghanistan, officials said.

Omar al-Farouq was gunned down after he opened fire on British forces during a raid on his home in Basra, 340 miles southeast of Baghdad, British forces spokesman Maj. Charlie Burbridge said.

Burbridge said he could not comment on whether it was the same man who allegedly led al-Qaida's Southeast Asia operations, citing British policy not allowing him to link an individual to a specific organization.

But a Basra police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said it was the same man. The officer said al-Farouq entered Iraq three months ago, was known to be an expert in bomb making and went by the name Mahmoud Ahmed while in Basra.

Good News From Iraq

Iraqi Army Captures Members of AQIZ in Samarra

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BAGHDAD
– A specially trained Iraqi Army unit captured two Al Qaeda in Iraq members wanted for attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces during an afternoon raid in Samarra on Sept. 22.

The Iraqi unit, with Coalition force advisers, conducted an air-assault in the vicinity of a building used to hold weekly religious meetings for members of AQIZ. Iraqi Army forces quickly cordoned off the area and entered the structure looking for several individuals connected to AQIZ. These individuals are believed responsible for improvised explosive device, sniper and other attacks against Iraqi Police, Iraqi Army, and Coalition forces.

Entry into the building was required by military necessity to locate the suspected AQIZ members. Iraqi forces entered and quickly captured two wanted individuals, one of whom has an outstanding Ministry of Interior arrest warrant. An additional 13 individuals were detained. A cache containing a large amount of mortar ammunition and weapons was found in an adjacent structure. The cache of ammunition was moved to a safe area in preparation for destruction.

Iraqi and Coalition forces respect the significance of sites used for religious purposes. While the building was not a mosque, Iraqi Forces took all precautions normally used for entry into mosques or other religious sites, and they respect the sanctity of all holy sites. Iraqi Forces only enter mosques or other religious sites when they are being used for illegal activities, to detain terrorists or seize material that can be used to harm Iraqi citizens, Iraqi forces and Coalition forces.

In this operation, only Iraqi forces entered the building and no damage occurred.

The raid occurred without incident or casualties.

Iraqi Army Targets Illegal Armed Group in Baghdad

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BAGHDAD
– Specially trained Iraqi Army forces, with coalition advisers, endured repeated gunfire and rocket attacks from persons associated with illegal armed groups during an early morning raid in southwestern Baghdad Sunday detaining 12 individuals connected with attacks against Iraqi citizens and Iraqi security forces.

The suspects are believed to be involved in numerous attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces and establishing illegal checkpoints and armed patrols around a building used to construct improvised explosive devices. Iraqi citizens who have questioned or disagreed with these actions have allegedly been kidnapped, tortured and murdered.

Iraqi forces received rocket propelled grenade fire while enroute to their objective, a suspect’s residence. No damage occurred and Iraqi forces continued to the residence. Upon reaching the objective, Iraq forces quickly gained entry to the residence where 11 local national males were found. One local national raised an AK-47 rifle and took aim at Iraqi forces in a hostile manner; he was engaged and killed by Iraqi forces. While preparing to evacuate the other 10 local nationals as detainees, Iraqi forces received continuous fire from several locations around the residence. Iraqi forces responded to these threats with well-aimed fire at clearly identified targets, several of which were neutralized.

At secondary objectives adjacent to the residence, Iraqi forces detained two additional persons connected with illegal armed groups. One teen male, ten females and eight children were not detained. Iraqi forces and all detainees then prepared to depart the objective.

Iraqi forces received numerous RPG and hand grenade attacks as well as heavy small-arms and machine gun fire against their convoy on the route away from the objective. Fire was received from several fighting positions emplaced alongside the road. Iraqi forces quickly moved out of the area, while again engaging identified targets with well-aimed fire. One additional enemy combatant was confirmed killed while two Iraqi Soldiers were lightly wounded.

The raid was conducted as part of Operation Together Forward and highlights the capability and resolve of Iraqi forces as they continue to deny sanctuary for illegal armed groups who harm Iraqi citizens and engage legitimate Iraqi forces working for a secure Iraq.

Man Charged with revving his car in a rascist manner!

Ok get this little gem on the pc world gone mad, a motorist arrested, thrown in the cells and then charged with revving his car in a racist manner. Could have been worse I suppose at least he was not handed over to the muslims for some Sharia type "justice"... Still the dhimmi state rolls on and on and on...

Story can be found here: http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/13/1347.asp

Scottish motorist Ronnie Hutton, 49, was jailed for two days for the crime of "revving his car in a racist manner" last September. After waiting more than a year to try the case, the Stirling Sheriff court finally convicted Hutton last week of breach of the peace and fined him £150 (US $282).

An off duty officer, Chief Inspector Eoin Jenkins, said Hutton had revved the engine of his Lotus Esprit near two Muslims last year. After Hutton dismissed Jenkins' concern with an expletive, Jenkins immediately dispatched two police officers to Hutton's home where he was taken and thrown in jail for two days without formal charges. Hutton explained that his revving had nothing to do with nearby pedestrians, rather, he was keeping his temperamental and expensive V8 engine from stalling and being damaged.

"To be convicted for revving my car in a busy street is hard to take," Hutton told the Sunday Mail newspaper. "Does this mean anyone driving a noisy car in Scotland is now a criminal?"

Asked in court why the man may have revved his engine, Hana Saad, 23, said through an interpreter, "Maybe because we are Muslim."

Iraqi Army Mounts Raid Against Kidnapper, Murder

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BAGHDAD – A specially trained Iraqi Army unit conducted an early-morning raid Sept. 21 looking for a suspect engaged in kidnapping and murder in Baghdad. The Iraqi unit, with coalition force advisers, surrounded and entered a building believed to hold the suspect. Iraqi forces found the suspect’s passport and five Iraqi citizens inside the building. Citizens who were questioned indicated that the suspect had fled to a building listed as “sensitive,” the National Dialogue headquarters.

Based on the nature of the National Dialogue headquarters, Iraqi Army forces were denied permission to enter the building. In preparing to depart the area, the Iraqi Army unit observed that the building had numerous surveillance cameras affording an unrestricted view of the Iraqi ground force. A machine gun was also emplaced on the roof of the building. Several individuals were seen on the roof in the vicinity of the machine gun. As a protective measure, several lights surrounding the objective area were shot out by Iraqi forces to lower light levels as a precaution against the cameras and machine gun.

The Iraqi force, with coalition advisers, departed without further incident. No individuals were detained during this operation.

Five weapons and munitions caches, and multiple IEDs were discovered throughout the region as a result of routine and planned counterinsurgency operations.

Joint statement by Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and Gen. George W. Casey Jr. on the transfer of Dhi Qar province

BAGHDAD – “Today’s transfer of security responsibility in Dhi Qar province from the Multi National Force–Iraq (MNF-I) to the Government of Iraq and civilian controlled Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) is another sign of progress toward a stable and secure Iraq. Dhi Qar is the second of 18 Provinces to be transitioned. This is an important milestone along the successful path toward Iraq’s capability to govern and protect itself as a sovereign nation.

“The joint decision between the Iraqi Government and the MNF-I to transition security responsibility reflects a satisfactory assessment of the overall threat situation in Dhi Qar, and increased capabilities of the ISF. Additionally, Dhi Qar’s provincial leadership has demonstrated the ability to take the lead in managing its own security and governance duties at the provincial level. Transition terms are in place to facilitate the transfer process, and Coalition forces stand ready to provide assistance if needed.

“As Iraq develops and its needs continue to evolve, so too will the nature of international assistance and investment. The United States remains committed to the development of Dhi Qar province by providing funding for additional humanitarian relief and reconstruction projects. Currently, $8.9M in Economic Support Fund money and $5M in Commander’s Emergency Relief Program funds are programmed for the completion of additional projects in Dhi Qar. Several other provinces are close to meeting the criteria necessary to assume security independence.

“After decades of dictatorship and oppression, the Iraqi people have taken another step toward security self-reliance. With the steadfast support of the Coalition, Iraq is on a path to national unity, improved security, and increasing prosperity that benefits all its citizens.

“May God bless the people of Iraq.”
