Terrorist Scum Jailed

The Jihadiscum 5

Let them rot in jail, thus depriving them of a death as so called "holy warriors of Islam" - Besides big Reg on C Wing needs someone with a cute beard to keep him warm of an evening.

Daily Mail bit on these nice moslem boys:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=451643&in_page_id=1770

and from The Sun:A BRITISH al-Qaeda terrorist was today jailed for life for plotting a series of deadly bomb attacks on targets in the UK.

Omar Khyam, who boasted of working for the number three in al-Qaeda, was found guilty of conspiracy to cause explosions made from chemical fertiliser which would endanger life. The judge recommended he serve no fewer than 40 years.

Khyam, 25, of Crawley, West Sussex, had denied the charge at the Old Bailey during a year-long trial.

After the verdicts it was revealed that Mohammed Sidique Khan, the ringleader of 7/7 London bombings, was a close associate of Omar Khyam when he was one of Britain’s top terror targets and in the final stages of his plotting....

Akbar was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 35 years, Garcia received life with a minimum of 20 years, Amin received a life sentence with a minimum of 35 years.

Waheed Mahmood received a life sentence with a minimum of 40 years - the same sentence as Omar Khyam.

Amin received a life sentence with a minimum of 35 years.

The judge had a few choice words for these animals: Sentencing them, Judge Sir Michael Astill told the terror plotters: "You have betrayed this country that has given you every opportunity."
The judge added: "All of you may never be released. It is not a foregone conclusion."

Only Akbar returned to court for the sentencing. The others, their lawyers told the judge, all refused to go back into the dock.

The judge said he would address them as if they were all there.

He told them: “You have betrayed the country that has given you every advantage in life.”
The “spiral of contamination” began with the “preachers of hate who contaminate impressionable young minds”, he said.

Just a matter of time before Stockholm syndrome sufferer Yvonne Ridley claims its all some Bush/Hitler/Zionist plot to do down the moslem faith. Here are some other followers of the Religion of Peace who are going through the legal system: http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/04/july-21-bombers-ongoing-trial.html

Melanie Phillips - her comment from the Daily Mail:

The ending of the Al Qaeda fertiliser bomb plot trial has posed crucial questions about the competence of MI5.

In particular, the assurances we were given after the 7/7 bombings, that the perpetrators had been unknown to the security service, have been shown to be utterly false.

Disturbing as that is by itself, the case also raises yet more pressing questions about whether Britain is even now acting effectively enough against the threat to this country from Islamist terrorism.

The fact is that Al Qaeda now sees Britain as both its principal target and its principal recruiting ground.

By its own admission, MI5 is monitoring no fewer than 200 terrorist networks, 1,600 identified individual terrorists and 30 known terrorist plots.

It says British Muslims are being indoctrinated with horrifying speed, and more terrorists are being recruited every day.

In truth, as our leading counterterrorist police officer, Peter Clarke, said last week, this country is facing a terrorist threat of a nature and scale it has simply never seen before.

This terrorism is part of a global holy war - and the dreadful thing is that it is recruiting British-born boys as its foot-soldiers against their own fellow citizens.

When my book Londonistan was published a year ago, my claim that we were in a state of denial about the unprecedented emergency we were facing from home-grown terrorism and extremism was dismissed in some quarters as unwarranted alarmism.

Since then, public opinion has shifted. Many have realised that what I wrote was, if anything, an understatement of the true position.

But our official class is still failing to take the action that is necessary to defeat this threat to our whole way of life.

Certainly, it is now aware of the enormous scale of the terror threat. But it is still fighting it with both hands tied behind its back.

In particular, the Human Rights Act continues to make effective anti-terror policy almost impossible.

Only last week, the Government was prevented from deporting two Libyan terrorist suspects, even though they came here illegally and are deemed to pose a serious threat to our lives, because our judges have said no one can be sent anywhere that might not uphold their human rights. http://www.guardian.co.uk/terrorism/story/0,,2066937,00.html?gusrc=rss&feed=11

The Government was originally begged by our security services not to pass the Human Rights Act precisely because of the danger it would pose to national security by tying us in such knots.
Ministers merely dismissed their concerns.

Now the same security services face the nightmare that Islamist terrorists will obtain a nuclear or other dirty bomb to use against Britain, with a human rights law that makes it more difficult to thwart such a terrible outcome.

Even worse than this, ministers seem to have no idea about the need to attack the ideology driving all this.

It is simply not enough to flush out the terrorist cells, vital though that clearly is. We have to defeat the ideas driving some British Muslims to commit these acts in the first place. The Government has started paying lip service to this.

It has spoken against the extremism of the Muslim Council of Britain, and is encouraging a wider range of truly moderate Muslims to speak up.

And a few more extremists are being arrested. But at the same time, it is still appeasing radicalism.

It has become a cliche to say that most British Muslims are moderate.

Certainly, most of them undoubtedly would have no truck with terrorism or violence and encouragingly, a growing number are speaking out against Islamist extremism.

But extremist views are not confined to a few rogue elements.

Opinion polls suggest that more than 100,000 of our Muslim citizens think the July 2005 attacks in London were justified.

A report by the Policy Exchange think-tank revealed that around one third of British Muslims thought that if Muslims left the faith, they should be killed; and 37 per cent of 16-to-24-year-olds wanted to live in Britain under Sharia rather than English law.

These numbers subscribing to such extremist views are deeply disturbing. They swell the sea in which terrorism swims.

If this tide is to be held back, Islamist extremism in Britain must be stopped and British values reasserted and stoutly upheld.

To defeat such extremism, we have to make it abundantly clear that we will not give an inch to those who want to destroy our values.

But we appear instead to be doing nothing to stop the spread of radical Islamism. Indeed, in a myriad different ways we are giving out the lethal message that we have neither the will nor the courage to defend our way of life.

British Muslims are being recruited in large numbers to terror because next to nothing is being done to stop it.

Last January, a Channel Four television Dispatches programme revealed that at certain mosques which were assumed to be moderate and which were even prominent in talking to other faiths, material was being preached and disseminated advocating such horrors as the murder of homosexuals, the beating of women and hatred of Christians and Jews. http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/01/dispatches-undercover-mosque.html

http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/01/dispatches-undercover-mosque-part-2.html

Despite the Prime Minister's promise to outlaw the radical group Hizb ut Tahrir (which believes that Britain should be an Islamic state), the Government refuses to do so. http://www.hizb.org.uk/hizb/

Yet, Ed Husain, an extremely brave former radical who has recanted, chillingly documents in his new book The Islamist the enormous influence of this group in telling countless British Muslims it's their duty to wage holy war, and that Muslims have a corresponding duty "to be prepared to launch attacks on Britain from within".

Not only are we failing to halt the spread of such lethally extremist views, we are also failing to hold the line for our own values.

Above all else, we should absolutely refuse to countenance the spread of Sharia law, which is not only inimical to our own deepest principles but aims to supplant our own laws.

Yet we are turning a blind eye to the steady Sharia-isation of our country. We have ignored the development of informal parallel Sharia jurisdictions, enforced by Sharia courts, in areas heavily populated by Muslims.

We have not only turned a blind eye to the polygamous marriages they sanction in Britain, but now give extra welfare benefits to husbands settling here with multiple wives - even though bigamy is a crime. http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/04/have-hareem-will-travel.html

Despite the fact that thousands of Muslim women are terrorised by the threat of "honour killings", only a few of these horrific cases result in prosecutions - because our police are terrified of being accused of "racism" if they pursue them.

Now Gordon Brown has said Britain should become the centre of global Islamic banking. But this is heavily backed by Saudi Arabia which will use it to further its objective of Islamising the West - and may even provide a cover for the financing of further terror.

This craven appeasement of extremism gives Islamists the unmistakable message that Britain is theirs for the taking.

Thus truly moderate Muslims are betrayed, and all of us are put in infinitely greater danger - not just from terrorism, but from a culture that still seems to be sleepwalking to oblivion.

**Late addition, seems that we have lost some terrorists. If found can someone please forward to John Reid or someone at the Home Office:

THREE men accused of links with Al Qaeda and the Bluewater bomb plotters are on the loose in Britain, it emerged yesterday.

Mohammed Quayyam Khan, a part-time cab driver from Luton, was allegedly in contact with one of terror overlord Osama Bin Laden’s most senior lieutenants.A second man, former London Underground worker Zeeshan Siddiqui, had planned to launch a suicide attack on the Tube, the Old Bailey was told. And Islamic militant Sajeel Shahid, thought to be the leader of the banned group Al Muhajiroun in Pakistan, is alleged to have set up a training camp where 7/7 ringleader Mohammad Sidique Khan and Bluewater leader Omar Khyam learned bomb-making.

Boycott Yes Loans

The dire financial company Yes loans is a total disgrace to the finance sector, even by the low standards of this sector it has to be said that Yes Loans stoops to a new low.

Having been exposed in The Mirror, on the BBC's consumer program X-Ray and had other articles written about them, some how this dire company manages to stay in business and carrys on robbing customers.

The deliberately target what they call the subprime market(in effect the poor)- with impaired or low credit ratings who may find it difficult to obtain finance from traditional sources. - , people who can least afford to deal with a company like Yes Loans.

One amazing point about Yes Loans is its director a chap called Keith Wilmot Chorlton, a man who has committed fraud, served time in prison and is barred from holding a directorship until 2010. He refers to himself and is called an "advisor" but you have to ask the obvious question of what sort of financial company would knowingly employ a man with a criminal record?

Above we see a chap called Alan Paul Spedding, a profesional spiv(yes he has got braces) and also featured in the Daily Mail bit.

But getting back to what they do, well to be honest very little for desperate consumers. They charge £49.50 and for that you become a client of Yes Loans. As a client of Yes Loans they claim to look for a loan for you, something that anyone with internet access can do for themselves for far less than £49.50. What you recieve is a sample rate, but they often offer a loan with a far higher apr% rate than that sample loan you recieve through the post.

Even when they can't fix you a loan you still get stiffed by Yes Loans, after all Keith Wilmot Chorlton has to make his money some how. They charge you £5.00 admin and so after a lengthy six month wait you get back £44.50.

Oh they also have a major problem with the telephone systems and apparently once someones details are on their database they keep getting calls from Wilmot and Co. Mind you one can only assume that Companies House are not on their mailing list as it took Keith ages to return his forms to them...

But don't just believe me, check out the links below:

Curry & Free Speech Please!

So much for free speech in the UK, make a comment that some over sensitive ethnic takes offense to and its brainwashing for you. George Orwell may have been a few years out, but the superstate is alive and kicking here in the UK.

Oh on a private note if any ethnics have a problem with this post they can fuck off and go cry to a diversity officer.

http://www.theasiannews.co.uk/news/s/227/227115_culture_class_for_curry_insult_magistrate.html
A MAGISTRATE reprimanded for complaining in court about '`bloody foreigners' and 'curry' has been sent on a course to appreciate other cultures.

Alan Mitchell has agreed to complete the diversity training course before he returns to the bench. **Well he could hardly refuse as he would have been sidelined, so agreeing is a loose term to be fair, pressured/blackmailed would be more accurate.

The Department for Constitutional Affairs said a reprimand was a fair punishment and that Mr Mitchell would be allowed to return to the bench. He has not been sitting as a magistrate since his comments were made public last month.

The city's longest-serving magistrate said in court: "Don't talk to me about bloody foreigners. I have to travel three miles to go to a decent chip shop. Don't get me started on Rusholme and curry." **Fair enough man is entitled to his views.

Diversity training can involve challenging stereotypes and encourages an appreciation and understanding of different cultures. **Ah! Right, this is some sort of George Orwell newspeak for cultural brainwashing.

Mr Mitchell, aged 68, who has been a magistrate since 1971, made the remarks while he was sitting as the chairman of the bench after dealing with his list of cases.

No defendants or members of the public were present but when one of his colleagues overheard one of his remarks, she pointed out that she was married to an Iranian and said she was unhappy with his comments. **Well methinks that she was a tad over sensitive, should avise her to suck it up and quit the quivering of the bottom lip. What ever happened to freedom of speech and expression?

A formal complaint was made and a panel recommended Mr Mitchell, from New Moston, should be transferred to a secondary list of JPs rarely called upon - effectively ending his career as a JP.

It is understood Mr Mitchell did not accept this recommendation. **No shit! Speak out and offend an ethnic(or someone married/living/concubine/hareem member etc) and its cultural reprogramming for you.

A spokesman for the Department for Constitutional Affairs said: "Since we made our decision, the (Manchester) bench chairman had a chat with Mr Mitchell who agreed to attend diversity training until he sits again. That's now in progress."

**Do as the state says, do not think, do not express your views, oh and vote Labour or else. Could have been worse at least New Labour have not got around to labour camps for people who don't toe the line, at least not yet. When they do will they call them New Labour camps?

Mind you I bet these scum fucks dont get some cultural re-education despite being guilty of race craimes: http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=158767&command=displayContent&sourceNode=158593&contentPK=17188114&folderPk=87654&pNodeId=158324

Newport in Gwent - Run by idiots.

Now of late I have done a few post on local affairs, namely the cronic incompetance of the local council and/or the police in being able to resolve local issues.

One I recently covered with the dire failure of the counci/police to tackle damage and the like on the part of the so called traveller community, thus leading to higher council tax bills and also higher crime in the areas affected.

Indeed our local boys and girls in blue seem to be more worried about the affects of plastic glasses than on reducing "real crime" - although if you believe the figures and hype from the government its more to do with the fear of crime, than crime itself. The rest of society just refer to that as bullshit.

Anyway here is the bit about the latest demon that the police are going to cure, plastic glasses to replace real glass glasses: http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/04/plastic-glasses.html and some more here on that demon that is glass: http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/04/health-safety-rise-of-plastic-glasses.html

Now with regards travellers, who cause crime and do what ever they feel here are a few bits on the poor show by our local council:http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/04/found-this-gem-in-our-local-paper-south.html

I am not the only one upset with things in my home town, sorry city the chap called Johnofgwent did a rather good post:http://newportcity.blogspot.com/2007/04/state-of-newport.html which I found here: http://isupporttheresistance.blogspot.com/

Upon checking I noticed that there is another good post from Johnof Gwent, which I shall post in full below. It makes a few very good points about the "redevelopment" of Newport, the complete mess that our city is in at the moment and will be in for the forseeable future and the erasing of much of our past.

It is the erasing of our past that I wish to make my main point, about the Chartist uprising and the way that effects our history. Now anyone who has read Newports history is aware of the Chartists and the fact that they were put down by armed troops and that some of the fighting took place in and around the town centre.

Aside from there not being any proper memorial to that event, other than the mural which will be covered below and may not be with the people of Newport for much longer! The Queens Hotel as it was(it is no more), the site of much of the fighting has now been transformed into a trendy club and unless you are aware of our history there is not any sign of the historic events that took place on that site. Sure a statue but unless you as a tourist take the time to look at it, it is easily missed.

No sign on the wall, no nothing to show what happened there on that violent day. Unless a tourist to the city either speaks to a local who knows about that, or takes the time to visit the museum they will be in the dark over these events. What other city would gloss over a whole chunk of their own hsitory? Any other city would be shouting about the events of that day from the rooftops, not hiding a few bits away on the council website.

A check of council papers in the tourism office gave poor pickings with regards John Frost and everyone else involved. So that is the sort of council that we have, they care not that the mural is erased from history, have done nothing to raise awareness of our past and will be happy for these events to be lost to history and lost to future vistors to Newport.

Some more bits on John Frost can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/southeast/halloffame/historical_figures/johnfrost.shtml

Of course a proper monument would remember both the chartists and the troops who followed their orders that day and engaged in bloody hand to hand fighting for hours. It seems the only things being remembered these days are local council officials who have streets named after them. On with the post I have copied from Johnofgwent:

Now people may not easily associate Newport, South Wales, with the words
'hotbed of political revolution'. Especially as history is often rewritten by
the politburo as soon as those alive to contradict the politico's lies pass away
and their stories passed to their grandchildren fade.

And especially so where the story is 'doubleplus ungood'. Anyone who has
tried to work, shop, go to the theatre that isn't propped up by the council
politburo as a monument to harry jones or even just tried to catch a bus in
Newport in the last three years can't have failed to notice that everywhere you
go the buggers are digging up the roads in order to cause maximum inconvenience
to those of us trying to get on with the business of living here.

So it takea a lot to bring my battle-weary sense of outrage out of the
slumber it's been numbed into. But now Newport's politico's have succeeded.A
couple of weeks ago the developers "appointed" (by whom I wonder, and where are
they going on holiday this year ?) to smash up the middle of Newport in the name
of the Ryder Cup announced that the Chartist Mural will be destroyed as part of
the havoc they have been allowed to wreak.

The Chartists. in case anyone doesn't know, demanded universal (male)
suffrage - sorry girls, you had to wait about a hundred more years to get the
vote. They also demanded a wage be paid to members of parliament, without which
standing for election was the privilige of the landed gentry and the moneyed
few. And they demanded annual elections - at the time there was no maximum
lifespan for a particular parliament.

So it can be argued that without these guys the framework for parliament as
we know it today would never have come about. But the landed gentry and moneyed
few were somewhat reluctant to have power wrestled from them. Which is why there was a bit of a bloodbath outside the Westgate Hotel. http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/CHnewport.htm

About thirty years ago this bloody massacre was commenorated in a public
mural on the wall of a tunnel leading into John Frost Square (John Frost was a
leader of the movement, although some say he wasn't even present when this event
took place). I've looked hard for a picture of this mural, but the best I can
find is at the top of the Newport Electoral Registration Office website http://www.newport.gov.uk/_dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=electoral.homepage.

How ironic and twistedn then is the alternative text in the image placeholder "The Chartists Fought For Our Vote. Don't Waste It"The Newport Website even includes the mural in its 'Public Art Train' promoting culture in Newport http://www.newport.gov.uk/_dc/index.cfm?fuseaction=thingstosee.publicart
but typically the thumbnails don't enlarge when you click on it.

And now this monument to the public right to have a voice is to be torn down by the apostles of the party that brought you the pinnacle of 'how to ignore ther electorate by saying repeatedly 'if you knew and could see what I know having read ....' in the deserts east of turkey. And the best our limp burghers can do is demand a "chartist theme" for whatever replaces that which they pay to have destroyed.

Richard Brunstrom - Traffic Taliban

Richard Brunstrom who is joking known as the traffic taliban due to his hard line on speeding motorists, this despite the fact that crime is on the increase in his area has mad another classic fuck up.
The man mullah of North Wales Richard Brunstrom.

His latest plan for controling the evils of motorists is the use of photos of a man killed in a traffic accident:
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news_detail_pa.html?sku=11777731801219546-H77

A chief constable displayed "a lack of decency and a lack of respect" by using photographs of a decapitated biker to back up his anti-speeding policy, his former deputy said.

A complete lack of morality to boot.

The scathing attack by Bill Brereton on North Wales Police Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom's behaviour adds to the mounting pressure on him to quit.

Makes you wonder exactly how they pick these Chief Constables?

Mr Brunstrom showed images of 40-year-old Mark Gibney, who died in 2003, to journalists on Thursday, without the family's knowledge. One showed Mr Gibney's head, still in its helmet, on a grass verge. The other showed his headless torso.

The man really has lost the plot.

"I have very serious concerns about the use of this material," Mr Brereton told the North Wales Daily Post. "I think using such photographs without the consent or even, as I understand it, informing the families, shows a lack of judgment, a lack of respect for the dead, and a lack of common decency."

Lets hope they sue the traffic taliban.

Mr Brereton, who had an acrimonious working relationship with Mr Brunstrom before he left in 2004, lost his 20-year-old daughter Jenny in a motorbike accident in 2001.

He said the parading of Mr Gibney's dead body must have been "horrible" for his family.

"If you have lost a loved-one in a horrible, hugely traumatic circumstance, you wouldn't want other people to look at that," he said. "However they are coming to terms with their grief, this can't have helped them."

Had the man any decency he would have already resigned, as he has not then he should be thrown out of the force.

Mr Gibney, of Liverpool, was not named when the photos were shown but details of his distinctive T-shirt, which bore an anti-police message, were given. The T-shirt received widespread publicity during Mr Gibney's inquest, and effectively identified him to the audience.

The force did not release the pictures for publication, and banned filming and photography when they were shown during the meeting.

Total bastard, nothing else but.

Mr Brunstrom said they were shown to give journalists the context of his campaign against speeding motorists. "The images are there to make a visual impact," he said.

Lets just hope that Brunstrom or someone he loves and care about also dies in a traffic accident so pictures of their mangled corpse can be shown for "visual impact. Of course this is the problem with pricks like Police Chief Constable Brunstrom is that they are just so bloody convinced that they know what is best for everyone else, alas our police these days due to being led from the top by wankers like this seem more focused on issues like raising revenue for the Government by pursueing the motorist for each and every infraction of the law(gypsies and illegal migrants, sorry undocumented workers aside as they are special interest groups) rather than focusing on catching criminals and keeping the Queens peace.

Indeed the latest cool and trendy idea to be wheeled out by our police forces is the replacement of real pub glasses with plastic glasses on health & safety ground, one would think that this would be a council remit rather than a policing issue.

For more on him see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6602149.stm

The state of Newport

The following was on the Home of The Green Arrow blog.
http://isupporttheresistance.blogspot.com/

posted original by JohnOfGwent

Good morning

As the election day draws near, and as you've seen fit to send numerous letters to me requesting my support, I thought it only fair to ask you for your opinions on a few matters:-

However, As MY daughter will be working abroad outside the EEC when SHE starts her working life, because there are no vacancies for her here, she won't have to repay her student loan at all. So I have a different set of priorities....

1. As I walk through the streets of Newport, Monmouthshire, I can't help noticing that all the official posters, signs, letters, and everything else to do with administering and taxing the sorry shambles that passes for this country nowadays has everything written FIRST in welsh, and often in a large font, and SECOND in english, and often in a smallerfont. What do you think about that ?

2. Anything 'official' coming through my door now comes printed and inserted in a way that the WELSH is the language that stares you in the face, and the ENGLISH is tucked away beside it. Or the WELSH is written where the non-arab races start reading their letters, at the left, and the ENGLISH is in the other half of the page. What do you think aboutthat ?

3. As a small businessman I am hearing noises that there is a campaign afoot to FORCE me to provide a means to conduct my business through the medium of welsh. I say it's my business what language I conduct my business in and if some people can't understand a word I say that's not my problem. What do you think about that ?

4. Did you know that planning applications in certain parts of wales have been turned down on the basis that to grant the application would present an unwarranted intrusion of english-speaking people ?

5. Did you know that there is at least one large organisations in what used to be the public sector whose language policy is that any welsh speaker complaining about being sent a document with english on it is immediately sent a welsh-only document, bereft of english, but any english speaker making the complaint about receiving documents in welsh receives a letter, sent to them welsh-outwards and english on the reverse, stating it is government policy that they must send their communications in both languages. And now for a few more local matters

6. Did you know that if you take a car down to the tip today there's a notice on the siter demanding that you be polite to the staff ?

7. Did you know that if you take something to the site that you cannot personally lift above your head in order to put in the skip, that one of the people paid from your council tax to man the site will shout and swear at you for not doing so.

8. Did you know that if you telephone to complain at the actions of those people you will be told that the staff there are told they must not assist you on the grounds of health and safety, and that in any case they are too busy directing the 300 cars that now turn up evewry day because rubbish is now only collected every fortnight ?

9. Do you know how much extra co2 is being pumped into the atmosphere by 300 cars making an average 10 mile trip to the tip instead of having one refuse lorry do it ?

10. Do you know how much we could save by sacking all the arrogant, rude, staff currently working at the tip and replace them with polish migrants ? And now for another issue ?

11. Do you know when it was last possible to drive a car from junction 24 or 28 of the M4 into the centre of Newport in daylight without hitting a delay caused by a roadwork scheme ?

12 Do you know how much money traders have lost because people are going to other places where their money is welcomed ?

13 Do you know how many businesses are looking outside Newport to set up business premises because of the ongoing hostility to vehicle traffic ?And whilst on the environment...

14 Would you please explain why we have to bear the cost of allowing your party to occupy the moral high ground when across the atlantic the smallest vehicle on the roads consumes more petrol per mile than our BIGGEST gas guzzler and the bloke in charge there laughs at us ?

And finally ...At the last general election, there was widespread complaint from politicians on all sides that there was a complete lack of interest from the younger send of the electorate. At that election, my eldest daughter got a polling card for the first time.

Now when I was in that position, Ian Grist the (tory) sitting MP for what is now Cardiff North, my constituency, wrote to every 17 year old, organised a coach trip to london, took us round westminster hall, walked us into the chamber of the house of commons (yes, honestly - it was in recess for the holidays and we walked in with him and looked at the green leather seats .....) and took us to the balcony outside where disraeli and gladstone (who were then on the GCSE O Level History syllabus) argued about the state of pollution in the river.

Can you explain why NO-ONE has bothered to do ANYTHING to give my daughter any belief, no matter how false in the current political and electoral system, that her vote, and her opinions matter to the way the country is run ? Because I believe that in a land where cottage burners are getting the upper hand, in a land where the only people the government bend over backwards for are those who claim to have put down the armalite rifle, the only message being sent out is that the way to be taken notice of is to PICK UP an armalite rifle and start using it, so that in twenty years time those of you who survive WILL be listened to.

And that gives me what some might call a rather unique view on the unorthodox way chapati flour was being used in what is now the country across the river Severn a few months back. And that makes me worried. What do you think about that ?regardsA person hoping to get his postal vote in time to use it (but it hasn't arrived yet so I guess the labour wreckers have done their job again)

**Some good points on that. So come May 3rd vote out the current shower of shit and get in decent people who actually care about improving Newport for the inhabitants of that city and not for their vested business interests.

Banks - The latest con on customers - Charging for accounts.

Now that customers have started to claim back illegal charges imposed by banks, charges that they have not defended in court on one occasion they are now throwing a collective sulk and threatening to fuck over, sorry help customers by charging them a fixed fee for their account.

**Barclays, a bank staffed by Mark Benton wannabe's but without the inteligence, the humour or even the looks of that comedian. Barclays are shit.

Posted the article that I spotted in The Guardian online.
http://money.guardian.co.uk/saving/currentaccounts/story/0,,2066572,00.html

Current accounts costing £200 a year could become the norm after the Office of Fair Trading launched an inquiry into whether bank and building society penalty charges were subsidising "free" banking.

--So lets see the record profits posted by banks were all down to Mr & Mrs customer paying the bank £30 for going overdrawn and then incurring another charge (or charges) later on in the month when the bank reject their direct debits and charge them for the privilage. So they are claiming that without illegally charging people we won't have free bank accounts. If that is the case then I think I smell extortion, or maybe its just plain b/s

The OFT said customers might benefit from up-front fees if the move brought greater transparency to current accounts. It said a lack of transparency about fees and interest rates led to a lack of competition and prevented customers from judging if it was worth switching to a rival bank.

-- Gee thats nice of the OFT, talk about a half baked decision. One would think that the banks should do their jobs properly in the first place and they should have lambasted the banks for not doing that in the first place. Now you would assume that something called The Office of Fair Trading would represent consumer interests, but they appear to have been neutered by the meddling from government ministers over this.

Some banks have imposed charges on current accounts, most notably First Direct. It charges £120 a year unless customers transfer £1,500 a month into their account or use another product. Most banks have also introduced so-called package accounts, costing upwards of £200, which include "free" travel insurance and car breakdown cover.

--Well its hardly free if its included as part of a package is it? The rest of the mob of thieves, sorry helpful banks on the high street are watching this closly to see how customers react. Still one can but hope one bank will buck the trend and put customers first, a vague hope but you never know.

The OFT review will examine whether competition would be improved "if there were a shift away from the widespread provision" of free current accounts.

--Ok run that by me again, charging for accounts is going to maybe improve competition in the marketplace, make things better for us? Somehow I doubt that. Better for the banks but not the over charged customers. Maybe we can hope for a service without constant mistakes, are you listening Barclays?

Consumer groups welcomed the investigation, but questioned whether the banks could justify ending free banking when the big five banks alone made profits in excess of £35bn last year. They said delaying a decision on whether to cap bank charges had also left millions of customers to battle in court to reclaim charges.

--Thirty five billion and still the consumer is being charged illegally. Also that figure does tend to contradict their statement that they can not afford to run free accounts for customers.

Banks have come under pressure to cut charges on unauthorised overdrafts. Campaigners allege that millions of customers have been unfairly charged by banks using rules in the small print.
Citizens Advice said in one case a man in Surrey who went 20p overdrawn after a direct debit payment faced charges of £300 and the threat of court action. Other customers have been hit with charges of £800 or more. The charity said: "Bank charges have a disproportionate effect on people on low incomes; one charge may be enough to push them into the red and keep them there."

--Lets see the banks defend this, especially when their own errors often cause the charges. This policy of the banks, hits the poorest in our society the most, yet the silence from the government over this is deafening.

The OFT aims to publish the findings of its study by the end of the year but did not rule out a referral to the Competition Commission should it need to impose tough sanctions on the banks.
Some observers said they doubted the review would lead to a crackdown. They pointed out that the OFT had already spent a year looking at bank charges only to declare that it needed more time and a wider remit.

--Dont hold your breath waiting for the OFT, they are a toothless talking shop, a bit like the FSA that oversees financial products. Pressure is being put on the government by the banking lobby - a powerfull force in UK politics.

Moneysupermarket.com, a financial website, said: "This looks like the OFT is backtracking, having belatedly realised its announcement to investigate bank charges was premature and that it had created an expectation among consumers of lower fees to come - unlikely to be fulfilled now the banks have threatened the withdrawal of free banking."

--The banking lobby has powerful friends, for instance a certain Mr G.Brown and T Blair for starters.

It pointed out that the British Bankers Association, which represents high street banks, appeared unfazed by the review.

The BBA said: "We are pleased the OFT recognises the issue of bank account fees needs further consideration and is more complex than it had initially believed."

--Makes you proud to see British business robbing British customers and a Labour government sitting back doing nothing but pass the buck.

Ah well at least Barclays are being investigated over that BBC program, well thats a start:

Good News From Iraq

As not reported on the BBC.
ABC:
Algerian army soldiers shot dead the coordinator and second-in-command of Al Qaeda's North African branch on Thursday, official news agency APS reported, quoting security sources.

Samir Moussaab, whose real name is Samir Saioud, was killed during a skirmish with an army patrol in the Boumerdes region around 50 kilometres (31 miles) east of Algiers, APS said.

He was tracked down using information gathered from ex-members of the group pardoned under an amnesty for Islamist rebels.

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb is led by Abdelmalek Droudkel, whose predecessor Nabil Sahraoui was killed by the army in 2003.

Multi-National Force – West PAO

AR RAMADI, Iraq -
Marking the culmination of a 53-day renovation project, members of
the West Central Ramadi District Council and local residents held a grand re-opening ceremony for the Al Warar Boys School here, April 17.

Approximately 100 students, more than a dozen teachers and numerous city leaders were in attendance for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the newly renovated facility. Arif Mokber Sayad, vice president of the WCRDC, and Fadel Khalaf Saleh, provincial director general of education were given the honor of cutting the ribbon for the celebratory occasion.

“Being here and seeing these happy children makes me remember my own childhood,” Sayad said. “Because of the cooperation of the people of Ramadi and the Coalition Forces, we will be able to educate our children properly.”

Approximately 100 Iraqi workers from local neighborhoods were contracted for the renovation, adding four new classrooms, repairing the roof, floors and plumbing, replacing all the doors and windows, installing air conditioning and heating units, and repainting the building.

The improved security in and around Ramadi has made this project and others possible in recent months. The cooperation between tribal leaders, local citizens and the Iraqi Police and Army in the province along with Coalition Forces continues to grow, providing a more solid foundation for future development.

CAMP TAJI, IraqMulti-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers engaged three men involved in improvised explosive device attacks, killing all three near Tarmiyah, Iraq April 18. One U.S. Soldier was wounded in the engagement.

Soldiers from Company D, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment were conducting a foot patrol searching for terrorists responsible for IED attacks in the area when the incident occurred.

While on the patrol, the troops came across a man attempting to emplace an IED. The man threw his detonator and ran from the Soldiers. The Soldiers pursued the insurgent to an abandoned house from which objects were thrown at them. Two other men came at the Soldiers from the direction of the house.

One of the insurgents attacked a Soldier. Following hand-to-hand fighting, the insurgent was killed. The Soldier suffered minor injuries.

The other two insurgents, who were carrying an IED, attempted to run but were engaged by 2-8 Cavalry troops. The two insurgents were killed when the gunfire detonated the IED.

The wounded Soldier was treated for minor wounds and was then returned to duty.

There were no other U.S. casualties from the engagement.

COALITION FORCES ELIMINATE POTENTIAL VBIED STOREHOUSE

BAGHDAD, Iraq
Coalition Forces raided a building southeast of Fallujah today where terrorists had been operating and uncovered two dump trucks and materials to make improvised explosive devices.

US, Iraqi raid in Mahmudiyah nets Iranian-marked rockets, mortars

Multi-National Division – Center PAO

Mahmudiyah, Iraq – A U.S. and Iraqi raid in a Mahmudiyah apartment complex
detained eight suspected extremists and discovered three caches containing
mortar systems, rockets and ammunition April 22.

Soldiers of 4th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division and the 2nd
Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th
Mountain Division, from Fort Drum, N.Y., discovered the caches at about 6:30
p.m. local time.

Coalition forces have found many weapons caches in the Mahmudiyah
area, but most rocket and mortar rounds found there have been deteriorated and
apparently intended for use in improvised explosive devices.
In contrast, the 60mm and 82mm mortar systems, three 107mm rockets,
three 60mm and three 82mm rounds found in the latest cache were nearly new.

Soldiers of the unit examined the weapons, which were stamped with
recent dates and Iranian markings.

Also found was bulk ammunition for a PKC machine gun.
The munitions were seized for further investigation.

The detainees were taken into Iraqi Army custody for further questioning.

Marines destroy truck bomb near Karmah

Multi-National Force – West PAO

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq –
A truck bomb loaded with explosives was destroyed by Coalition aircraft with precision guided munitions four kilometers east of Karmah, just after midnight April 27.

Marines from Regimental Combat Team 6 detained a suspected terrorist in the course of routine combat operations, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Fallujah. During questioning, the man provided the location of a dump truck rigged with explosives.

After confirming the location of the truck, the Marines identified eight 55 gallon barrels, the contents of which were unknown, wrapped with detonation wire and explosives.

Marines immediately established a security cordon and evacuated the citizens in the surrounding area.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team determined the safest way to destroy the truck was by precision guided munitions.

Marines providing security expanded the cordon and further aided in the evacuation of civilians out of harms way.

Fighter jets from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), in support of RCT-6 ground forces, destroyed the truck, causing minor damage to nearby structures. Coalition Forces in the area are assessing the blast site and damage to nearby buildings to compensate the owners appropriately.

There were no reports of civilian or Coalition Forces injured in the operation.

Operation Commando Dive leads to detentions, cache finds

Multi-National Division – Center PAO

BAGHDADA multifaceted-coalition operation in the Shubayshen area, just
south of Baghdad, led to the detentions of almost 50 detainees and a number of
cache finds April 21.

Operation Commando Dive incorporated several units’ operations from the
2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) out of Fort
Drum, N.Y., as well as the 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division. Operation Eagle Dive was conducted by the 4/6 IA “Baghdad Eagles” in conjunction with 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd BCT, and netted 33 detainees, mostly suspected of involvement with improvised explosive device manufacture and emplacement.

Caches found during the operation contained two machine guns, two
shotguns, six AK-47s, two ski masks, 27 mortar rounds, 280 57mm rockets, four
155mm rockets, nine 12-volt batteries, multiple mortar fuses, three ready-toemplace IEDs, 500 hand grenades, four 82mm mortar tubes, a large rocket, and six rocket-propelled grenade launcher sights. Additionally, numerous IEDinitiation devices and 30 DVDs of Al-Qaeda propaganda were discovered.

Operation Polar Dive, executed by 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment,
2nd BCT, and the 4th Battalion, 4/6 IA, detained three suspected terrorists and
found a cache of improvised-explosive device-making materials including wire,
black powder, explosives manuals in English and Arabic and chemistry
textbooks.

One of the men detained admitted to making over 100 IEDs. Operation Trident IV, conducted by the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd BCT, and 3rd Bn., 4/6 IA, detained six terror suspects and found a small weapons cache containing small arms and ammunition as well as 300 pounds of homemade explosive material and ball bearings for use in IEDs. Company A, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd BCT, cleared the routes of IEDs, discovering three emplaced explosive devices en route to the objectives.

“This was in an area that has been a safe haven for terrorists,” said Maj. Brian Kerns, operations officer for the 2nd BCT and native of Fairfax, Va. “The 4/4/6 Iraqi Army has improved their capability to get into these areas … and the operations will definitely disrupt terrorist operations.” “The terrorists realize that Shubayshen is no longer a safe haven for anti- Iraqi forces,” Kerns added.

The detainees were taken into Iraqi custody for questioning. The contents of the caches were destroyed in place with controlled detonations.

COALITION FORCES DETAIN NINE

BAGHDAD, Iraq
Nine suspected terrorists are in Coalition Forces custody Friday after raids to disrupt al-Qaeda in Iraq operations around the country.

Near Salman Pak, Coalition Forces detained a suspected terrorist known to associate with al-Qaeda in Iraq and lead a group responsible for kidnapping Iraqis.

Coalition Forces detained five suspected terrorists in Mosul who are allegedly involved in a group responsible for making and using vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices, and attacks on the Iraqi Army, Iraqi Police and Coalition Forces.

In Baghdad, Coalition Forces detained an individual suspected to facilitating the movement of foreign fighters and IED-making materials.

Two suspected terrorists were detained near Ramadi when Coalition Forces found them with weapons and IED-making materials.

“Coalition Forces are continuing to disrupt the networks that make and use deadly IEDs to harm Iraqis and those who are trying to build a stable Iraq,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition Forces detained four suspected terrorists Friday morning during an operation in Sadr City.

The individuals targeted during the raid are suspected members of a secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training.

Intelligence reports also indicate the secret cell has ties to a kidnapping network that conducts attacks within Iraq.

“Individuals coming into Iraq from other countries for the purpose of endangering Iraqi civilians and disrupting security won’t be tolerated,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. “We will continue to work diligently to rid Iraq of foreign terrorists trying to thwart the development of a stable and peaceful Iraq.”

TERRORISTS KILLED, VBIED NETWORK DISRUPTED

BAGHDAD, Iraq
Coalition Forces killed four terrorists Thursday morning while targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq west of Taji.

Coalition Forces targeted the location based on intelligence reports that indicated associates with links to the al-Qaeda in Iraq deadly vehicle-borne improvised explosive device networks were present at the location.

Ground forces were searching buildings at the targeted location when they began receiving heavy small arms fire from one of the buildings. Coalition Forces returned fire and engaged the armed terrorists.

Despite efforts to subdue the armed terrorists, Coalition Forces continued to receive enemy fire. Coalition Forces used appropriate escalation of force to react to the perceived threat and called for close air support, killing four armed terrorists.

During a search of the objective, Coalition Forces found multiple weapons and explosive materials. All these items were destroyed on site.

Additionally, Coalition Forces believe that two women and two children were also killed during the strike. Al-Qaeda in Iraq continues to place women and children in harm’s way with their terrorist activities.

“Unfortunately al-Qaeda in Iraq continues to use women and children in their illegal activities,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. “Al Qaeda continues to demonstrate they do not care about the future of Iraq, and we will continue to target all terrorists in Iraq regardless of their titles or positions within the community.”

Four terrorists killed, two suspects wounded

BAGHDAD, Iraq
Coalition Forces killed four terrorists, wounded two suspected terrorists and detained nine during operations to disrupt al-Qaeda in Iraq around the country Thursday.

Three armed terrorists engaged Coalition Forces with small arms fire from within a building in eastern al-Anbar province. Coalition Forces exercised proper self-defense measures in response to the perceived threat, killing them.

When Coalition Forces entered the building, they found weapons, a suicide vest, and propane tanks rigged to explode. They evacuated the area and the propane tanks were destroyed on site.

One armed terrorist was killed in his vehicle when he attempted to run a Coalition Forces checkpoint in the area. Two other suspected terrorists were wounded when they attempted to run a Coalition Forces checkpoint. They were taken to a military medical facility for treatment.

An operation targeting a network facilitating foreign fighters netted five suspected terrorists north of Fallujah.

West of Taji, Coalition Forces detained one armed, suspected terrorist, and three suspected terrorists were detained in Baghdad with alleged ties to a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device network in the area.

“These raids are helping Coalition Forces get a clearer picture of the enemy network, and the best ways to capture or eliminate those who threaten the security of Iraq,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.

Four more armed terrorists entered the area and hid behind a stationary vehicle while they engaged Coalition Forces with small arms fire. Coalition Forces returned fire with automatic weapons, killing two terrorists and destroying the vehicle.

“We will continue to target terrorists wherever they operate, to diminish their ability to conduct operations against the people of Iraq and security forces,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesman.

SIX SUSPECTED TERRORISTS DETAINED

Al-Qaeda in Iraq security emir killed

BAGHDAD, Iraq –
Coalition Forces positively identified a terrorist killed in an operation April 20 northwest of Baghdad.

Muhammad Abdullah Abbas al-Issawi, also known as Abu Abd al-Sattar and Abu Akram, was a known al-Qaeda terrorist leader known to operate in Karmah and Ameriyah areas and was the al-Qaeda in Iraq Security Emir of the eastern Anbar Province.

Coalition Forces were conducting operations targeting associates of a known senior leader within al-Qaeda in Iraq. During the operation the terrorists engaged ground forces with small arms fire. Coalition Forces used appropriate self-defense measures and engaged the armed men, killing two and detaining one. One of the terrorists killed has been positively identified as Abu Abd al-Sattar.

Coalition Forces recovered assault vests, weapons, hand grenades and suicide vests at the site.

Abu Abd al-Sattar had links to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and was reported to have been in contact with him since late 2004, up to al-Zarqawi’s death. He was also a weapons supplier to insurgent forces fighting against the Iraqi Army, Iraqi Police and Coalition Forces, and had links to the recent surge in chlorine VBIED attacks across Iraq.

In Anbar province, nine individuals suspected of working with al-Qaeda in Iraq were detained in three separate Coalition raids.

Coalition Forces detained four suspected terrorists south of Taji for their alleged involvement in a network responsible to making and placing VBIEDs.

“The success of coalition operations continues to disrupt al-Qaeda’s operations in Iraq. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.

ONE TERRORIST KILLED, 19 SUSPECTS CAPTURED, BOMB-MAKING CACHE FOUND

“Coalition forces continue to remove dangerous stores of weapons and explosives from the hands of terrorists and the enemies of the people of Iraq," said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. "This represents one more small victory in the war against those that would deny safety and security to the Iraqi people.”

CAMP SPARROWHAWKIraq passed another important milestone on the road toward self-reliance when the security of another province was transferred to Iraqi control at a ceremony here April 18.

Maysan province, the fourth of 18 Iraqi provinces to be transferred to Iraqi control from the Coalition Force, lies within the British-led Multi-National Division-South East area of operations.

“This is a moment for optimism,” said British Maj. Gen. Jonathon Shaw, commander of MND-SE, at the ceremony. “This is a testament to what is possible when the people of Iraq work together,” he added.

The ceremony also demonstrated cooperation between Iraqi people and the Coalition, as Shaw and provincial governor Adil Maliki signed a memorandum of understanding and shook hands.

The ceremony concluded with a parade of Iraqi Soldiers, Police border officers and firemen.

A joint statement issued by U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker, British Ambassador Dominic Asquith and General David H. Petraeus, commander of the Multi-National Forces-Iraq reads, “The joint decision of the Iraqi Government and the MNF-I to transition security responsibility reflects the assessment of the situation in Maysan and the capabilities of the Iraqi Security Forces there.”

Even though Iraqi Police and Soldiers now have control of all law enforcement and security operations in Maysan, the Coalition force will continue to provide support to Iraqi Security Forces as needed, according to the joint statement.

Lt. Col. Kevin Stratford-Wright, a British military spokesman, said that British forces will continue their mission of securing the border between Maysan and Iran, as mobile units equipped with Range Rovers and light armored vehicles will conduct regular patrols of the frontier.

Investment in the province will also continue, according to the joint statement.

To date, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed more than 200 projects in Maysan, 41 more are under construction and another 15 are planned. Investment in the province totals nearly $100 million.

In the coming months, more provinces are expected to join Maysan as Iraq continues along the path to national unity, improved security and increasing prosperity.

WASHINGTON - A top Al Qaeda commander who led operations in Afghanistan and plotted the assassination of Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf has been taken into US custody, the Pentagon said on Friday.
Abd Al Hadi Al Iraqi, who was taken to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba within the past week, was intercepted as he was trying to reach Iraq to manage Al Qaeda operations and possibly plot attacks against western targets outside Iraq, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said.
Whitman said al-Iraqi “was one of Al Qaeda’s highest ranking and senior operatives at the time of his detention.”
He was a key Al Qaeda commander in the late 1990s and from 2002 to 2004 was in charge of cross-border attacks against coalition forces, working directly with the Taliban, he said.
“He also in recent years was involved in plots to assassinate perceived opponents of Al Qaeda to include Pakistan President Musharraf as well as other officials,” he said.
Al-Iraqi was held by the CIA before being turned over to US military authorities, said Whitman.
A CIA spokesman said the interrogation methods it used in holding al-Iraqi “were legal, and thoroughly reviewed by our government to ensure they are in accordance with our laws and treaty obligations.”
“The information that CIA’s terrorist interrogation program has produced has prevented attacks and saved innocents lives,” said spokesman Paul Gimigliano.
President George W. Bush in September announced that all high value prisoners being held by the CIA at secret overseas detention centers had been transferred to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
A US intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said al-Iraqi was captured late last year, well after the president’s announcement, as part of a complex international organization.
“There were a lot of people who did a lot of hard work to make this operation a success,” the official said. “It’s not confined to the United States, but plainly US intelligence had a key role.”
The Pentagon and the CIA declined to comment on where al-Iraqi was captured or whether US forces were directly involved.
“At the time of his capture he was trying to return to his native country, Iraq, to manage Al Qaeda’s affairs and possibly focus on operations outside Iraq against western targets,” Whitman said.
“He was intercepted before he got there,” he said.
Whitman said al-Iraqi also met with Al Qaeda members in Iran, but would not say when.
A fact sheet released by the Pentagon said al-Iraqi believed that Al Qaeda members in Iran “should be doing more with the fight, including supporting efforts in Iraq and causing problems within Iran.”
As a senior Al Qaeda planner and operative, al-Iraqi “had fundamental responsibility for Al Qaeda operations in that whole stretch of the world as well as other responsibilities,” the intelligence official said.
“I would think of him in relation to the plot against Musharraf as someone who had a leadership or guiding role,” he said.
He was born in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul in 1961 and served in the Iraqi military before going to Afghanistan where he spent 15 years, it said.
Before the September 11, 2001 attacks, he was a member of the Al Qaeda military committee that oversaw terrorist and guerrilla operations and paramilitary training, according to the Pentagon.
He also was a member of a 10-member group of advisors to Osama bin Laden, and was known and trusted by the Al Qaeda leader and his deputy Ayman Al-Zawahiri, the Pentagon said.
It said that at one point he was Zawahiri’s caretaker and that he interacted with top Al-Qaeda planners and decision makers such as Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, Abu Faraj al-Libi, Hamza Rabi’a and Abd al-Rahman al Mujair.
More recently, he associated with leaders of other extremist groups allied with Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, including the Taleban, it said.
He worked “directly with the Taliban to determine responsibility and lines of communication between Taliban and AlQaeda leaders in Afghanistan, specifically with regard to the targeting of US forces,” it said.
KABUL, Afghanistan - Hundreds of Afghan soldiers and police retook a district outside the capital from the Taliban on Friday, pushing out militants who had seized the area in fierce fighting a day earlier, a senior Afghan official said.
Marajudin Pathan, the governor of Ghazni province, said a hastily organized force of more than 250 officers encountered no resistance when they swept into Giro.
"The district is under our control," Pathan told The Associated Press by telephone. "There was no resistance because the cowardly enemy escaped."
He said police, assisted by Afghan soldiers and troops from the U.S.-led military coalition, were combing villages in search of any fighters still hiding there.
The Taliban takeover of Giro, just 110 miles from Kabul, helped undermine claims by the Afghan government and its foreign backers that President Hamid Karzai has expanded government control of the country.
Militants have repeatedly overrun towns in rural areas, especially in the south and east, despite the presence of NATO and U.S. troops whose numbers have swelled to the current 47,000.
But the Taliban's hold is usually short-lived.
