Bob Marshall-Andrews Labour MP - £118,000 claims for second home.

Aye up, looks like "comrade" Bob has been helping himself to the workers wealth...
The left-wing Labour MP claimed the money for a flat in his constituency of Medway, Kent, while having a house less than 10 miles from Parliament.

Mr Marshall-Andrews bought the flat, which is about an hour from central London, in 1999. In 2007 the flat above sold for £210,000. The MP, a member of the socialist Campaign group, also shares a house in Richmond, south-west London, with his wife Gillian. They bought it in 1975. In March a house on the same road sold for £3.5 million.

He was returned with a majority of just 213.

During the following year he claimed £750 on a “multi-room audio system” and £830 on a DVD recorder, digital satellite TV package and other electrical goods.

He claimed about £1,800 to have his living room carpet stripped out, replaced with oak wood flooring and finished with “Oak Scotia” edging.

He split the price of the flooring claim between his second home allowance and office expenses account, because he defined the property as his constituency base. The dual definition also allowed him to claim for the flat’s BT telephone bill and for items such as a £60 “luxury briefcase” he bought from Marks & Spencer in July 2005.

In the same year, Mr Marshall-Andrews claimed £450 for replacing floorboards and window sills and for fitting his balcony with a handrail crafted from American Ash. Two months later he claimed £200 for two carpets bought by his wife in Nairobi, Kenya.

During the following year he spent £3,750 on renovations to the flat’s windows and French doors and other redecoration.
He also claimed almost £1,300 for an intercom, brass name plaque and other brass furniture for his front door. In 2007 he claimed £420 to have windows re-sanded and a bath resurfaced.

Since 2001 Mr Marshall-Andrews has claimed a total of £117,916 for the flat.

His claims typically included £730 for monthly mortgage interest charges, £107 per month for council tax bills and grocery bills of between £100 and £350 per month.

Oink, oink, oink comrade.
