Estelle Morris spent thousands on flat before she stepped down

In February, three months before the election, Tony Blair nominated her for a seat in the House of Lords.
In February, three months before the election, the then Estelle Morris claimed £1,227 for carpets, while in March she claimed £5,301 for a replacement boiler in MPs' expenses.

Lady Morris did not stand at the 2005 general election and the Labour candidate for her Birmingham Yardley seat was defeated by the Liberal Democrat John Hemming. She announced she would be standing down as an MP in September 2004.

She claimed £1,578 for a bill covering the service charge on her smart apartment block until the end of July, almost three months after the election.

Other claims included a cherry wood bedside table from the furniture store Heal's, which cost £355. A television and DVD player cost £693 from John Lewis, while a microwave was £99 and cabinets for the study were another £250. The peer claimed £18,971 in her last year as an MP.

She also claimed £649 for a laptop computer in the March before the election, although the fees office wrote to her to point out: "Members should have refrained from purchasing items of capital equipment".
