Life in Soviet Britain under comrade Brown: Public services fail.

Value for money provided by public services has sunk steadily over the past decade, an official report said yesterday.

It said that productivity levels have also slumped despite the spending of more and more taxpayers' cash.

According to the Office for National Statistics, output per head in 2007 was down 3.2 per cent on a decade earlier, when Labour came to power.

Of all the major public services, only social security administration was performing better than it had in 1997. The department hands out state benefits.

Value for money for the taxpayer from the Health Service dropped by 4.3 per cent over the decade - an average decline of more than 0.4 per cent a year.

Yet productivity in the wider economy has been rising by between 2 per cent and 2.5 per cent a year.

Public sector output was found to have fallen most at the point when the largest amounts of money were being spent.

Time to sack them all, restart from scratch, close every quango, department of paperclips and put the PCSO's back into the community looney bins that they came from.
