Well the dour Scot and unelected PM(by us the taxpayers and voters of the UK that is), is trying the hard man routine saying that he will deport troublemakers etc etc. Yarda yarda yarda.
From The Daily Mail
Gordon Brown has promised to deport 4,000 foreign prisoners this year.
The Prime Minister vowed to make a vast increase on the 2,700 sent home last year.
There are currently more than 12,000 foreign convicts in Britain's overcrowded prison system - 15 per cent of the 80,000-strong jail population.
Mr Brown said: 'We are going to take a far tougher line. I want a message to go out - if you come here you work and learn our language. If you commit a crime you will be deported. You play by the rules or you face the consequences.'
**Well I say here and now that this is just "soundbite politics.", in short typical Nu Lab bullshit, this will quickly descend into a fiasco like the prisoners released under former Home Sec. John Reid. He will be lucky to get more than a few token illegals, or prisoners deported before it all falls apart and is quietly dropped.
I am sure that some will be asked nicely to go, as part of the program that is already in place where the Government pays illegal migrants to leave the UK. Others will cite "human rights" and quickly clog the legal system up with cases that will take years to resolve. Many more will vanish back into the murky underwork where the authorities will never locate them again.
Expect stories on criminals being paid to leave the UK to be in the papers fairly soon. Some more details on that program here, where illegals can get up to 3000 quid to leave.
Maybe he should turn he mono gaze onto spending more on immigration controls and deterring people who have no place here from arriving in the first place. If anyone thinks he will actually do it, well take a look outside and see those pigs flying past...
**Oh and wait for the comment either from Brown or so Nu Lab minister on how we "need" ID cards in order to (well insert excuse/reason/bullshit) here. I am going for the "Security on our borders" reason myself, along with an added soundbite on al-quada for good measure...
