GUSH ETZION, West Bank - Israel suspended negotiations with the Palestinian Authority on issues such as prisoner releases and slapped tough travel restrictions on the West Bank after Palestinian gunmen killed three Israelis and wounded five in drive-by attacks near Jewish settlements.
Sunday's Palestinian attack near the Gush Etzion block of settlements was the deadliest since July. It followed Israeli intelligence warnings that Palestinian militants, who claim they drove Israel out of Gaza by force, would now shift their focus to the West Bank. Israel pulled out of Gaza in September in a unilateral move.
The Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a militant group with ties to the ruling Fatah party, claimed responsibility. However, security officials said they believed the Islamic militant group Hamas might have been involved.
The attacks renewed international pressure on Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to crack down on militants. Abbas, who is to meet later this week with President Bush in Washington, has been reluctant to take harsh measures against the militants. ** They just dont seem to get it, that killing people wont help the peace prosess
ASHLAND — Pete Seda and his former Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation passed out copies of what the federal government considers to be a radical version of the Quran that includes a call to jihad, or holy war, against those who do not believe in Islam.
The book, called "The Noble Quran," includes a chapter, called "Appendix 3," that tells readers to "race to jihad" and to include weapons such as missiles, planes and ships against the enemies of Allah.
Tom Nelson, the Portland attorney licensed as the Al-Haramain agent here, acknowledged the appendix’s presence Saturday, saying that he believes government misinterprets it and uses it to paint the group as terrorists.
"That’s the one that’s driving people nuts," Nelson said....
This version of the Quran was printed before the Sept. 11 attacks, when jihad did not have the same holy war connotations as today, Nelson said.
"I can see how Americans can be upset about it after 9/11," Nelson said. "I don’t think they would have pre-9/11."
Despite the appendix’s many references to violence and war, Nelson prefers to consider jihad as a "struggle" and that Islam teaches that "death is better than oppression." ** Religion of peace my arse.
At approximately 1:25 p.m., Coalition forces conducted an air strike against a group of terrorists attempting to emplace an improvised explosive device east of Ramadi.
While conducting a combat air patrol, crewmembers from an F -15 observed 20 men arrive in four vehicles at the crater site of a previously-detonated IED which had killed five U.S. and two Iraqi Soldiers on Oct. 15. The terrorists were in the process of emplacing another IED in the same spot when the F- 15 engaged them with a precision-guided bomb, resulting in the death of terrorists on the ground.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., a UH-1N Huey and AH-1W Cobra helicopter team on patrol north of Ramadi had been observing a group of military age males gathered at a suspected terrorist safe house. After realizing their position had been compromised, the terrorists fled the scene and engaged the Cobra with small arms fire. The Cobra returned fire with 20 mm. munitions, resulting in the death of an estimated 10 terrorists. At approximately 7:50 p.m., a team of F/A-18’s resumed observation at the suspected safe house where they found an additional 35-40 terrorists loading their vehicles with weapons and driving to another location to unload the weapons. The F/A-18 targeted the terrorists with a precision-guided bomb, killing terrorists on the ground. The combined strikes resulted in approximately 50 terrorists killed. ** Good infidel technology against the jihadist savages, means a lot of savages get to meet their maker.
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Taliban guerrillas shot dead a pro-government cleric in southern Afghanistan, a government official said on Monday, the second killing of a religious figure in three days.
Hours before gunning down Mohammad Gul on Sunday, Taliban shot dead Mohammd Dawood, a provincial intelligence chief, officials said.
Dawood's body guard was also killed and two other officials were wounded, they added.
Gul, a member of 'Shuraye Ulema', or clerics' council, was killed as he walked home after prayers at a mosque in Lashkargah, the provincial capital of Helmand province, the official said.
"The Taliban killed him," said Mohammad Wali Alizai, a spokesman for Helmand's governor.
Gul's killing came after a bomb exploded in a mosque in the eastern Khost province on Friday, killing Mullah Ahmad Khan, another pro-government cleric. **Even when islam presents an opposite view to radical jihad the islamonazis kill them.

Oh it gets better: TEHRAN - Iranian police have been accused of shooting and killing a motorist after he failed to stop when spotted eating during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, a press report said.
The victim, identified as 22-year-old Seyed Mostafa, was shot dead in Tehran on Saturday.
He was also playing loud music with his car stereo, the government Iran newspaper said.
"Even if the police claim is right, is eating during the fasting month punishable by death?" the victim's brother was quoted as saying.
The report did not say if the family would press charges against the police, who have been actively enforcing a dawn to dusk Ramadan ban on public eating, drinking and smoking as well as a wider campaign to crack down on "lawless elements".
