MOSCOW -- Authorities said today that 108 people have been killed in Russia's North Caucasus region as Islamic militants have staged coordinated attacks on police and government buildings in a new wave of violence spilling over from war-torn Chechnya.
At least 24 law enforcers, 12 civilians and 65 guerrillas have died in the two days of fighting in Nalchik, capital of the predominantly Muslim republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, authorities said. Seven more guerrillas were reported killed in an outlying district and 17 were captured. ** Here's hoping the Russian security forces have a goodly supply of electrodes and testicles, not that I would ever suggest that these peacefull islamics should be tortured to find the rest of their friends who got away. Again I am glad to see Putin taking a tough line with these animals and not giving in an jot to their sick demands.
Dutch authorities today detained six men and a woman in a series of anti-terror operations across three cities, officials said.
Police declined to confirm reports in the Dutch media of gunfire being heard during one of the operations in the capital, The Hague.
Security has been stepped up around government offices in the capital.
The suspects, ranging from 18 to 30 years old, were detained in The Hague, Amsterdam and Almere. Officials said they would be brought before an investigating judge on Monday.
Today's security operation comes a day after media reports of renewed threats against MPs Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders, who are both outspoken critics of radical Islam.
The two politicians had to go into hiding for several months after Van Gogh's murder ** Well done the Dutch, glad to see that some Europeans are getting touch on terror, rather than making tough speeches on it like our gutless shower of a government.
** Ok got to report on this looney, this guy is mad and actually running a country which makes me feel rather sorry for the citizens of his nation. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez believes natural disasters around the globe are rooted in capitalism.
As reported by Agence France-Presse, Chavez, in a radio and TV interview, said the recent earthquakes in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, and the mudslides in Mexico and Guatemala were nature’s answer to a "world global capitalist model” that has left the world "dangerously off balance.” ** Maybe he should meet up with that Islamic scholar who said that the tsunami was Allahs punishment on the wicked, then again who knows what bizarre theory the two of them would dream up. Mind I bet that they would some how blame George Bush for most of it...And now some good news from the Iraq war.

** Going onto a different subject it seems that someone has been dipping their hand into the cash jar that was Iraq under Saddam. Does make you wonder why the French were so opposed to the war? Now here's hoping that they will be able to nail that loudmouth shit George Galloway. Considering how he fawned over Saddam before, he has very little to say on his former buddy these days.... PARIS (AP) - France's former U.N. ambassador has been taken into custody as part of an investigation into allegations of wrongdoing in the Iraq oil-for-food program, judicial officials said Tuesday.
Jean-Bernard Merimee, 68, who also was ambassador to Italy from 1995-98 and to Australia in the 1980s, is suspected of having received kickbacks in the form of oil allocations from the regime of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. He was also a special adviser to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan from 1999 to 2002.
** Ok I cant leave it alone, it seems that the Telegraph has decided to fight the Galloway ruling where Galloway was awarded £150,000. Good luck to the Telegraph on that and I hope that they manage to get the original verdict overturned. Theres a bit in the Guardian on this www.politics.guardian.co.uk/media/story/0,12123,1589733,00.html/
Work can be a dangerous place, every year employees get killed on the job and I have found a bit from clarity & resolve on this:
Srinagar: In the first such incident in Jammu and Kashmir, a female suicide bomber blew herself up near a place of worship at Awantipora in south Kashmir's Pulwama district this morning, a CRPF spokesman said.
Giving details, he said suicide bomber Jahan Ara Begum blew herself up in a ground near a place of worship on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at Awantipora at 1130 hrs this morning. ** Wonder if she qualifys for the 72 virgins?
