EDM 1637 - Hugo Chavez/Cartoons of Mass Amusement.

Rosindell, Andrew

That this House completely rejects the suggestion that the UK should hand over the Falkland Islands to Argentina made by Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, on 9th February; believes that all matters relating to the Falkland Islands, expecially sovereignty, are issues concerning the Falkland Islanders and the British Government alone; notes the illegitimacy of the Argentine claim on the islands; and urges the Government to rally round these loyal subjects of the Crown whenever their sovereignty is questioned and to declare that the Union Jack will permanently fly above Port Stanley.

** Missed this one about ol Chavez wanting us to hand our domains over to Argentina. The Argentines had their chance to grab the Falklands and lost the war. This edm was signed by 27 MP's - neither of our local Newport MP's bothered to sign, Jessica Morden as she was off having her nails done(or maybe reading the new Harry Potter book - although that may be a bit advanced for her methinks) and libelist MP Paul Flynn never signed either as he seems more concerned with drug related issues.

Some more light reading on the bearded MP Paul Flynn

Quick call the police! A disaster has happened. A cartoon has appeared and El Beeb is going into shock.

Seems that someone has fired off a cartoon of mass hysteria. Get a load of this lefty tosh as reported on El Beeb:

Extremists have been blamed after a cartoon featuring the prophet Mohammed with a bomb in his turban was put up in a housing office in Oldham.

The cartoon, which has sparked protests from Muslims worldwide since it was published in a Danish newspaper last year, appeared at First Choice Homes.

Managers acted quickly to remove it and have begun an inquiry.

  • Oh the pain, the humanity! How will we ever cope after this. A cartoon, and they are holding an inquiry to see how someone put that up? Now thats hardly the work of extremists to be fair, I always thought any self respecting extremist tended to go more for violence, explosives extortion and that sort of thing. Still they are looking into it, just in case any more extreme pictures are pinned to boards..

Oldham was hit by race riots in 2001 when youths from the mainly Muslim Asian community fought white youths.

A number of measures have since been carried out in an effort to improve race relations in the town.

Staff offended

First Choice Homes - which runs the town's council housing - said the matter had been reported to police.

Steve Yorke, its Director of Management and Operations, said many staff had been offended by the cartoon.

  • Yes as I am sure that police have nothing better to do with their time than to look into the matter of cartoons...after all they have serious crimes to look into, gay horses, people driving 1mph over the limit, or eating an apple at the wheel etc etc...

"They were upset and angry but it's our job to demonstrate to all staff that we will not tolerate offensive literature, we will not tolerate posters of this kind which are designed to divide our staff and set staff against each other in whatever way shape or form," he said.

  • love that phrase "divide our staff" - its hardly a Stalinist purge now is it? Get a grip, tell the offended staff to suck it up and deal with it and to stop being new age dhimmis.

Oldham Council said the cartoon could be part of an attempt by right-wing extremists to increase tension ahead of council elections in May.....blah blah blah...

Paul Flynns apology:
Recently Paul Flynn was involved in a libel case where he made comments about an endowment pensions company, the result of which he had to pay out damages. He was sued after he posted an attack on such companies on his website, claiming they were out to "re-rob" the victims of endowment mis-selling by dishonestly over-charging them for their services.
But he made the mistake of referring to well-regarded company Endowment Justice Ltd, which represents mis-selling victims on a "no-win, no-fee" basis. The company and its directors sued and at London's High Court Mr Flynn made a public apology for the "unjustified attack" on the claimants' integrity.
The MP as part of the settlement put the following statement on his website: On this website in February this year, I made certain statements referring to Endowment Justice Limited, one of the companies which offers assistance in obtaining compensation for those people who were mis-sold endowment policies. I have been campaigning against companies providing professional services in relation to endowment policy compensation claims, but my facts about Endowment Justice were incorrect. As a result, I wrongly accused the company and its directors Nick Keca, Marianne Fitzjohn and Graeme Webber of having previously mis-sold endowment policies and now dishonestly overcharging those self-same victims to help them obtain compensation. I am happy to clarify that neither Endowment Justice Ltd or any of its directors were ever involved in any aspect of endowment policy selling. It was therefore false and unfair to suggest that they had profited from the historic mis-selling of endowment policies. I was also incorrect in stating that Endowment Justice, which offers its services in recovering compensation on a “no-win, no-fee” basis, could charge its customers up to 40% of any compensation gained. Endowment Justice in fact charge customers 17.5% plus VAT or 22.5% plus VAT of any compensation gained. I was wrong to give the unintended impression that the company or its directors acts in any way improperly or unlawfully in providing services to those seeking compensation for endowment policy mis-selling. I would like to apologise to Endowment Justice for my allegations, and to Mr. Keca, Ms. Fitzjohn and Mr. Webber for any embarrassment or distress caused by my false remarks.
