Iraqi police forces welcome new members to team

FOB KALSU, Iraq — The Iraqi police force continues to grow in strength as 167 recruits graduated from the Najaf Police Academy March 4 and joined their brothers in arms.

Abd Razak Shaed, the IP general inspector, along with Lt. Col. Michael Hilliard, commander, 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, attended the event.

“Today marks another step in the journey towards a safer, independent Iraq , and the graduates of the Iraqi Police Academy are leading the way,” said Hilliard. “This graduation is another demonstration of the abilities of the new Iraqi government, which continues to make landmark strides on a regular basis.”

After the ceremony, Hilliard met with Assad Sultan Al-taee, Najaf governor. The two leaders discussed a variety of issues, including the continuous support from Coalition Forces on the security of Najaf and its people.

Both leaders also agreed that a new IP academy, designed specifically to train and equip the new government's security forces, is essential. Some potential IPs travel to Jordan to receive their training. Keeping the trainees in Iraq will provide better quality IPs, said Al-taee.

“You have made a choice to protect the good people of Najaf – and for that, your country is proud,” Hilliard told the graduates. “Iraqi citizens should know that their continued support of the local and national government is critical to maintaining this type of progress.”

IPs, CF work together to avoid disaster

ISKANDARIYAH, Iraq – An economic and environmental disaster was averted when Iraqi police and Coalition Forces joined forces to put out a pipeline fire Mar. 2.

Terrorists attacked the oil pipeline and breached a 20-meter section of pipe.

A fire ensued, covering the space of two soccer fields.

Firefighters, who arrived on the scene, came under small-arms fire until Iraqi police arrived and the terrorists fled.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, secured the outer cordon of the fire until it was put out.

The combined effort of the IPs and Coalition Forces helped prevent the catastrophic destruction of valuable oil pipelines that move fuel for energy, a highly-prized commodity for export out of Iraq, said Lt. Col. Patrick Donahoe, commander, 1-67 AR.

Civil Affairs Soldiers deliver essential goods to orphans

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Soldiers from the 425th Civil Affairs Battalion, currently attached to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, donated essential goods and toys to Iraqi children from the Salhiya Orphanage in the Karadah district of central Baghdad Mar. 1.

The civil affairs mission was one of many aimed to help orphan children in and around the greater Baghdad area.

Working in conjunction with the Army Corps of Engineers, 425th CA delivered approximately $500 worth of supplies to the orphanage.

“Giving gifts to people is probably one of the best things we do here in Iraq,” said Capt. Scott Ginsburg, civil affairs officer, Company A, 425th CA.

According to Ginsburg, every civil affairs mission is gratifying, and establishing good relationships is essential to help perpetuate peace for the Iraqi people.

“There are two sides to war,” he said. “There is a lethal side and a non-lethal side, and obviously our job is to form great relationships with the people.”

10th Mountain Division Soldiers capture terrorists, discover cache

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, captured two terrorists in Abu Ghraib Feb. 26.

Soldiers from the battalion’s Company B were conducting a routine inspection of vehicles in western Abu Ghraib. Prompted by his previous experiences in Iraq, 1st Lt. Scott Treadwell, Co. B, ordered his Soldiers to search a suspicious vehicle.

Treadwell’s men discovered two known murderers of Iraqi civilians. The two men were carrying rifles and contracts for the murder of other Iraqis.

A day prior, Soldiers from the battalion’s Co. C found a large weapon cache after days of diligent searching.

No longer willing to tolerate terrorists in their neighborhoods, Iraqis provided the Soldiers with the cache’s location.

The Soldiers quickly verified the location and discovered weapons buried in an empty field a few miles west of Baghdad’s heart.

The Soldiers unearthed a significant cache. Along with bomb-making equipment, the cache held five rocket propelled grenade launchers, 19 rocket-propelled grenades, 20 mortars, eight rockets, 21 grenades and some explosives.

To ensure public safety and deny these weapons to the terrorists, the Soldiers called for explosives experts to destroy the cache.

Soldiers from Special Troops Battalion, 1st BCT, 10th Mtn. Div., responded and destroyed the weapons in a controlled explosion.

Cox & Forkum do a fine cartoon on the terrorist hugger film that did well at the Oscars.

Trivia: During Saddam's rule, Internet access was limited and censored. Today, Iraqis are flocking to an uncensored Internet in Iraq, with over 2,000 Internet cafes serving them.

TERRORIST SCUM BACK LIVING IN UK ON KAFIRS MONEY

A FANATICAL Muslim who ranted against Britain has moved back here from Pakistan — to live on benefits.

Hate-filled Zeeshan Siddiqui, 26, who once called London an “organ of the devil”, is enjoying life in a suburb of the capital.

The Sun tracked down Siddiqui to a quiet, tree-lined road in Heston, West London, following his release from custody by Pakistani police who were probing suspected terror links.

In the past he has said he wants to be an Islamic martyr, called for all non-Muslims to be killed and declared his contempt for the UK. Yet he is happy to sponge off our taxpayers to the tune of £52.60 a week in Jobseekers Allowance.

Siddiqui slipped back into Britain in January after eight months in prison in Peshawar.

He was suspected of having links to the 7/7 London bombers and at school was friends with Britain’s first suicide bomber Asif Hanif, who died in Israel in 2003.

Pakistani cops caught him with phone numbers of al-Qaeda terrorists, an electrical circuit which could have been used to detonate a bomb and a venomous diary spelling out his desire for a jihad, or holy war.

Cops believed he was waiting to be dispatched as a suicide bomber but the case against him collapsed when several witnesses failed to come forward.

The Sun has learned that before heading off to Pakistan to study, Siddiqui once worked for Transport for London - which could have given him vital information on road and rail networks.

Last week he surfaced on BBC Radio 4 to whinge about his treatment at the hands of the Pakistani authorities and claim he was tortured.

When The Sun tried repeatedly to speak to Siddiqui, he came to the door but would not comment on his case.

A neighbour who was at school with him said: “He reappeared a few weeks ago. At school he was always talking about Islam and politics.
