MUQDADIYA, Iraq – Five suspected Anti-Iraqi Forces were detained and a small cache of weapons and ammunition was discovered when Iraqi Army and Coalition Forces conducted a raid on a suspected terrorist safe house north of Muqdadiya Wednesday.
Acting on recent intelligence, Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 5th Iraqi Army Division and Soldiers from C Company, 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Lightning detained five members of a suspected kidnapping ring. The men are suspected of performing kidnapping for money, and other terror activities in Eastern Diyala.
In addition to the detainees, the combined patrol confiscated a Mauser bolt-action rifle, a Garand rifle, one mortar base plate, two sets of body armor, 2000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a bag of ball bearings, seven cell phones, and numerous anti-CF and anti-Iraqi Security Forces propaganda.
MND-B Soldiers find 2 weapons caches

BAGHDAD –Soldiers from Multi-National Division – Baghdad’s 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, discovered a large weapons cache at approximately 12:15 p.m. Wednesday while conducting area reconnaissance west of Baghdad.
The cache consisted of six rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 24 RPG rounds, three MPK rifles, one RPK rifle, one HPK rifle, 500 RPK rounds and 300 API rounds.
Earlier in the day, 1st Bn., 22nd Inf. Regt. Soldiers found a smaller cache northwest of Baghdad while conducting a dismounted patrol.
The cache consisted of four 73mm rockets, 25 60mm mortar casings, 13 fuses and two hand grenades.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived at the site and performed a controlled detonation to eliminate the threat.
MND-B Soldiers find weapons cache
Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD – Soldiers from Multi-National Division – Baghdad’s 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, found a weapons cache at approximately 2:35 p.m. Thursday in northeast Baghdad.
The cache contained 30 artillery rounds ranging in size from 122mm to 155mm.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was dispatched to the site of the cache and performed a controlled detonation to eliminate the threat.
As of Wednesday, Iraqi Security Forces and MND-B have cleared more than 53,000 buildings, 53 mosques and 46 muhallas, detained more than 90 terrorist suspects, seized more than 1,100 weapons, registered approximately 780 weapons and found 31 weapons caches. The combined forces have also replaced more than 1,100 doors, 35 windows and 1,350 locks damaged during clearing operations and have removed approximately 104,397 cubic meters of trash from the streets of Baghdad.
The detainees and the cache were transported to Forward Operating Base Normandy where the detainees will be held for questioning.
BAGHDAD – Iraqi army and police, supported by Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers, abegan clearing operations in the Shaab and Ur neighborhoods today in support of Baghdad security operations during Operation Together Forward.
The combined operation began early today with soldiers from 1st Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division; 2nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division; and national policemen from 1st National Police Division, cordoning off the neighborhood before conducting deliberate clearing operations; the operations are being supported by the Soldiers of Multi-National Division – Baghdad.
The goal of the Iraqi-led operation is to decrease sectarian violence – specifically, to reduce the amount of violent crime in focused areas identified for their propensity for violence. Shaab Ur is the eighth major area within Baghdad cleared since the beginning of the second phase of Operation Together Forward on August 7.
During clearing operations, all buildings are searched for illegal weapons, contraband and caches. Soldiers also register the legal weapons belonging to residents. Additionally, precision, intelligence-driven operations are conducted to disrupt terrorist cells and death squads.
The Iraqi Security and Coalition Forces continue to assess all areas across Baghdad in need of additional security based on levels of violence.
UAV catches AIF mortar team in the act
MULTINATIONAL DIVISION – NORTH PAO
KHAN BANI SA’AD, Iraq – Two men were detained and a small cache discovered after Coalition Forces observed, with an unmanned aerial vehicle, six men fleeing the origin of an indirect fire attack on the civilians of Khan Bani Sa’ad, south of Baqubah Tuesday.
After two mortar rounds impacted near the village, the nearby UAV observed the men fleeing the suspected origin of the attack in a gray sedan at a high rate of speed. With the help of the UAV, Soldiers from the 1-68 Combined Arms Battalion pursued the suspected mortar team.
The suspected Anti-Iraqi Forces attempted to hide the car in a palm grove then fled on foot in opposite directions. Upon arrival at the scene, 1-68 CAB detained two of the men who had jumped into a nearby irrigation canal. The unit found the sedan along with one 120mm mortar system and six AK-47 magazines.
The detainees, the vehicle, and the cache were transported to Forward Operating Base Warhorse where the detainees are being held for questioning.
Iraqi Army Rescues Man Being Tortured By Illegal Armed Group

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Army units liberated a man who was being held and tortured by members of an illegal armed group in Ad Diwaniyah during an early-morning raid on September 14th.
The man, who was found visibly beaten, tortured, and bound, stated that he had been held for the past three days. He further stated that the four persons abusing him fled just prior to the arrival of Iraqi assault forces. The man was immediately treated by medical personnel on-site and evacuated.
The man was liberated during a raid by Iraqi Army forces, with coalition force advisers, against four suspects wanted for multiple actions against Iraqi forces. The suspects are members of a group engaged in sectarian violence against Iraqi citizens, the rule of law, and the authority of the Iraqi government. Their illegal actions include “death squad” activities, the supervision of indirect fire attacks and emplacement of improvised explosive devices in the Ad Diwaniyah area, direct leadership of militia units against Iraqi Army units on August 27th and 28th, and acting as a leadership node for other coordinated and complex attacks against Iraqi army and police forces.
The operation was conducted to disrupt the leadership of illegal armed groups in Ad Diwaniyah and reestablish Iraqi government control in the city. While the primary suspects were not captured, an Iraqi citizen was freed and weapons, a mortar aiming sight, improvised explosive devices and other material was captured.
The raid occurred without further incident.
Iraqi soldiers, Police and Coalition Forces find weapons cache, capture suspected insurgents, face insurgent attacks in western Al Anbar, Iraq
CAMP AL ASAD, Iraq (Sept. 11, 2006) – Iraqi Security Forces and U.S. Marines discovered an enemy weapons cache yesterday while conducting a joint patrol in the Al Qa’im region in western Al Anbar, Iraq.
The result of a coordinated effort between Iraqi soldiers, police and U.S. Marines, which were based on intelligence reports — yesterday’s find is a sign of the increased security- role Iraqi Security Forces are playing in this Syrian-Iraqi border region.
The weapons cache consisted of:
· Hundreds of rounds of machinegun and rifle ammunition.
· Various explosive rockets and rocket propelled grenades.
· Rocket launchers.
· Rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
· Over 100 lbs. of explosive material.
· Improvised explosive device-making material.
Furthermore, Iraqi and U.S. Security Forces detained several insurgent suspects and had multiple engagements with insurgent forces throughout western Al Anbar Province yesterday, which included small-arms fire, mortar and IED attacks.
No Iraqi or Coalition Forces personnel were killed in any of yesterday’s attacks.
In the Haditha Triad region, insurgents used a school building to launch a rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire attack on a U.S. Marine vehicle-mounted patrol.
No injuries or deaths resulted from the attack.
In a separate incident, Iraqi soldiers learned that insurgents fired a rocket-propelled grenade through the front door of a local resident’s home. The warhead landed in the main room of the house, but failed to detonate. The soldiers responded and coordinated the removal of the explosive warhead with Coalition Forces’ assistance.
RCT-7 is the U.S. military unit responsible for providing security and mentoring Iraqi Security Forces in western Anbar Province, an area more than 30,000 square-miles in size which stretches from the Jordanian and Syrian borders hundreds of miles east to Hit.
IA, NP team with MND-B Soldiers to secure Baghdad’s Khadra neighborhood

BAGHDAD – Soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and policemen from the 5th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, along with Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad, began clearing operations in Baghdad’s Khadra neighborhood Sunday in support of Operation Together Forward.
Soldiers from 1st Bde., 6th IAD, entered and cleared the Khadra houses and buildings while MND-B Soldiers took on a support role in the mission and worked to establish relationships with the citizens of Baghdad.
The operation began early Sunday morning when Soldiers from the 2nd BCT conducted a cordon around the neighborhood and stopped the flow of civilian traffic. Soldiers from the 1st Bde., 6th IAD, along with police from 5th Bde., 2nd INPD, and the Soldiers from 2nd Bn., 1st Inf. Regt., moved from house to house in Baghdad’s Khadra neighborhood in search of weapons caches and terrorists.
As of Tuesday, the combined forces cleared 1,450 buildings, two mosques and two muhallas, detained two terrorist suspects and seized 11 weapons.
INP, MND-B Soldiers seize weapons during Operation Together Forward in southern Baghdad

BAGHDAD — Police from 8th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, working with Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers, searched more than 980 buildings in southern Baghdad’s Risalah neighborhood Saturday.
During the first day of the clearing operation, Iraqi Security Forces and MND-B Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, attached to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, detained eight suspected terrorists and confiscated more than 30 weapons.
During the security operations, INP and MND-B forces searched homes for illegal weapons and registered 96 private weapons in accordance with Iraqi law. The police seized 10 AK-47 assault rifles, an RPK machinegun, a shotgun, five pistols, two rockets, two mortar base plates and a mortar tube.
Iraqi policemen also seized a 100mm artillery round, six 60mm mortar rounds, three fragmentary grenades, five rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 18 RPG rounds and various bomb-making materials.
Operation Together Forward is a joint effort between Iraqi Security Forces and its Coalition Forces partners from MND-B to enhance existing security conditions and reduce violence created by terrorists and death squads in Baghdad.
As part of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki's immediate mandate to restore peace to the city, Operation Together Forward involves more than 45,000 ISF and approximately 15,000 Coalition Forces.
IA EOD team thwarts terrorist attack

BAGHDAD – Iraqi army soldiers from 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, found and disabled a large vehicle-borne improvised explosive device at approximately 11:50 a.m. Wednesday in central Baghdad.
An Iraqi Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived on the scene after IA soldiers cordoned off the area surrounding the vehicle.
The Iraqi EOD team investigated the vehicle and found 2,000 pounds of TNT wired to the vehicle.
Since the charge was too large to detonate in place, the team dismantled the device to render it safe.
Iraqi Police detain three suspected insurgents near Mosul mosque
MULTINATIONAL DIVISION – NORTH PAO
MOSUL Iraq – Iraqi police detained three suspected insurgents and discovered one improvised explosive device near a mosque in western Mosul Monday, following an attack on coalition forces in the area.
The anti-Iraqi forces fired on coalition forces near a cemetery in western Mosul. The insurgents fled into a mosque and continued to attack from inside after the coalition forces pursued them.
Coalition forces cordoned the area and notified Iraqi police of the situation.The Iraqi police decided to launch a search of the mosque and surrounding area leading to the capture of the three suspected insurgents and the discovery of a prepared IED. Iraqi Explosive Ordnance Disposal described it as a 60mm mortar round, which was destroyed.
There were no injuries to Coalition Forces or Iraqi Security Forces.
MND-B Soldiers detain 49 suspected terrorists

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers detained 49 suspected terrorists and confiscated several weapons caches during combat operations Wednesday and Friday in Baghdad.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, detained seven terrorist suspects and seized a small weapons cache at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday after searching a dump truck at a checkpoint north of Mahmudiyah.
Upon searching the vehicle, they found five of the suspects hiding in the back and seized two PKC rifles, two AK-47 assault rifles with 20 fully-loaded magazines of ammunition, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, two pistols, three grenades and 15 sets of body armor.
The suspects were detained for further questioning.
On Wednesday, Soldiers from 3rd Bn., 67th Armor Regt., 4th BCT, 4th Inf. Div., stopped a truck while on patrol and found 29 AK-47 assault rifles, two RPG rounds, two grenades and a sniper rifle.
The Soldiers also detained 15 suspected terrorists for questioning.
In a separate incident, Soldiers from Company A, 3rd Bn., 67th Armor Regt., stopped two separate convoys, confiscated numerous weapons and detained 25 suspected terrorists in east Baghdad Wednesday.
The Soldiers confiscated 42 AK-47 assault rifles, 165 AK-47 magazines, two Tabuk rifles with scopes, a Thompson submachine gun, six 9mm pistols, seven RPG launchers, 25 RPG rounds and propellants, two tandem RPG rounds, 14 hand grenades, a RPD machine gun, two PKM machine guns and two RPK machine guns.
On another patrol Wednesday, Soldiers from 1st Bn., 66th Armor Regt., 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., detained one suspected terrorist during offensive operations north of Baghdad.
Soldiers from Co. A, 1st Bn., 66th Armor Regt., searched a home and found four AK-47 assault rifles with magazines and pistols.
The patrol detained a man claiming to be a weapons dealer after searching his home.
A patrol from 2nd Tank Brigade, 9th Iraqi Army Division, detained a suspected terrorist during combat operations north of Baghdad at approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The patrol cordoned and searched a house and detained a suspected terrorist.
