It has been announced by the government that there will be yet more cuts to the armed services, ships being mothballed and the like, the last military hospital has been closed and only this week the fiasco that an army base has been closed for a few weeks to save on heating costs.

Our troops have to live in what is discribed as "slum" housing, have to pay out of their own pockets for decent equipment, not supplied with enough body armour in combat zones, lack even basic supplies on occasions and still the government burys its head in the sand.
Only this week Blair decided not to visit a wounded soldier as it was feared that his mother may give him an ear bashing and that would not "look good." - Makes you wonder just how gutless the man is.
The worst aspect of the government is their total lack of action over any of the above points, we now have a situation where wounded troops come back to UK, end up in hospitals often hundreds of miles from their families, where no system exists to put up familys near them, they then have to join waiting lists and their have even been cases of wounded soldiers being abused in UK hospitals.
Yet the pigs we have elected to government feel its ok to award themselves a vast payrise for doing precisely fuck all, where if illegal migrant scum were housed in army camps a whole raft of MP's/human rights lawyers and radical unwashed lefties would be howling about the abuses of their human rights.
Only this week we had the case of a Somali child rapist getting 50 grand compensation for being illegally caged, yet jack shit for the troops putting their lives on the line for this nation.

I think you may have guessed by now that we are coming from completely different ends of the political spectrum, I am totally against the war in iraq and afghanistan. however, I am pretty much behind you on this post, being an ex-squaddie myself i think it is appaling to put our troops in harms way and not give them the support they need.
Bliar is looking to spend billions on replacing trident, a weapon that will never be used, but is happy to make cuts in spending where it would be far more useful to the protection of this country.
It is all pretty much F.U.B.A.R.
With regards to Trident, there I feel that we do need some form of nuclear weapons systems for the 21st Century - especially with Iran and other nations looks to build their own.
Should we disarm it would be easy for some nation to hit us and we would have no nuclear ability with regards hitting back. The old M.A.D. arguement.
The major problem with Blair is he saw both Afganistan and Iraq as short term ventures and is not willing to now spend the money that keeping troops on the ground incurs. Rights and wrongs of the wars aside, should we leave now before the job is done, both nations will decend in total chaos and eventually we will have to go back in at some future point to clean up the mess.
Worse still is his almost total non commitment to the UK armed forces, with regards to providing after care for troops leaving combat zones.
Agree with anonymouse there.
