Iraqi Security Forces captures two insurgents in Baghdad

BAGHDAD – Special Iraqi Army forces, with Coalition advisers, captured two suspected insurgents Dec. 4 believed to be responsible for improvised explosive device and carbomb attacks against Coalition forces during a raid in the Jihad neighborhood, southern Baghdad.
The insurgents are believed to belong to a terrorist cell implicated in an attack on Coalition forces in Mosul, which resulted in the deaths of several Coalition forces Soldiers. The cell is suspected of weapons trafficking throughout the Jihad area and Baghdad.
Minimal damage occurred at the objective or surrounding area. There were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi forces or Coalition forces casualties.
Iraqi Army captures two insurgents in raid near Al Karma

BAGHDAD – First Iraqi Army Division forces, with Coalition advisers, captured 10 suspected insurgents Monday during a raid near Al Karmah, east of Fallujah.
Two of the insurgents are believed to have ties to the Al Qaeda in Iraq terrorist network. They’re suspected of belonging to a cell which conducts activities inciting sectarian violence in and around Baghdad. The cell is also involved in the transport of and use of rockets in attacks against Iraqi civilians; they are also involved in attacks against Coalition forces.
Minimal damage occurred at the objective or surrounding area. There were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi forces or Coalition forces casualties.
Vehicle bombs found in Mahmudiyah

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Soldiers responded to a detonated vehicle bomb in the Mahmudiyah
Upon arrival, Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division blocked off the street and requested an explosive ordinance team to clear the area. While clearing the area, the team from 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment of 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division found another vehicle borne improvised explosive device.
The bomb was destroyed at 11:25 a.m. in a controlled detonation, and the area was cleared.
One Iraqi civilian security guard was injured in the initial explosion.
1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division PAO
SABA AL BOR, Iraq – Iraqi Police raided a home here Dec. 3 rescuing a woman and young child who were captured earlier in the week by alleged terrorists.
The police received a tip from local citizens that led them to the kidnapped woman and child.
The incident is still under investigation.

AL KISIK, Iraq – The 3rd Iraqi Army Division ceremoniously took the lead here Monday in providing security for Iraq’s people, becoming the seventh Iraqi Army division to assume control from coalition forces and the third division to now fall under the command and control of the Iraqi Ground Forces Command.
“This is a proud day for us and for Iraq,” said Maj. Gen. Khorsheed Saleem Hassan Muhammad al-Doskekey, the commander of the 3rd Iraqi Army Division.
In front of hundreds of attendees who traveled from as far as Baghdad and Dahuk to attend the ceremony, the posting of the 3rd IA flag represented its full assumption as the lead for military forces in the region.
“The Iraqi army and its brave soldiers have sacrificed immensely”, said Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon, Commander of Multi-National Division-North and 25th Infantry Division (Light).
“I am honored to have served with you over the last several months and I look forward to serving along side you in the future,” said Mixon.

HOR AL BOSH, Iraq – Soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division found a weapons cache and a large sum of money here Nov. 30 while conducting a search.
Coalition forces had received a tip from concerned local citizens that there was a terrorist cell operating just south of Hor Al Bosh.
An investigation into the source of the cache is ongoing.
BAGHDAD, Iraq – A Coalition Aircraft killed one terrorist during an operation early Wednesday morning near Khanaqin.
The Coalition aircraft was leaving a raid that targeted foreign fighter facilitators when it received small arms fire from a vehicle. Coalition Forces returned fire, destroying the vehicle and killing the armed terrorist. Ground Forces detained one suspected terrorist during the raid.
Foreign fighter facilitators are responsible for killing innocent Iraqis and preventing the peace and stability Iraqi citizens deserve. Coalition Forces are working diligently to eliminate foreign fighters trying to hijack the development and building of a new stable and peaceful Iraq.
Iraqi, Coalition Forces set up checkpoints in Siniyah: security update

TIKRIT, Iraq—Existing checkpoints around Siniyah remained in effect Tuesday, after being reinforced when terrorists executed several attacks on Iraqi Security Forces, Coalition Forces, and Iraqi civilians in Siniyah and the surrounding areas.
“Iraqi and Coalition Forces continue manning the checkpoints and searching all supply trucks, but they are not hindering the flow of food into the city,” said Lt. Col. Scott Harris, commander, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division.
During the past 48 hours, more than 18 supply trucks with food, water and other supplies arrived in Siniyah. Citizens who required urgent medical care were allowed to leave the city.
“This operation so far has already resulted in a 300 percent decrease in IEDs and attacks on civilians,” said Harris. “It is critical for Iraqi forces to confront the terrorists and establish lasting security in Siniyah. The good people of Siniyah deserve better. There maybe be discomfort now, but in the end, we seek to create an everlasting peace.”
Harris emphasized it is important to restrict the movement of people because he believes he has trapped a great deal of terrorists inside the city. Isolating the terrorists is critical to long-term success, he said.
Harris also met with Salah ad Din governor, Hamed Hamood Shekti, today to discuss the situation in Siniyah. Both agreed Siniyah has a security problem and agreed any solution needed to be Iraqi-developed and executed. They intend to work together with leaders in Siniyah towards that goal
Paratroopers find and an IED near Bahbahani

FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq – Paratroopers from 1st Battalion, 501st
Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division found an improvised explosive device (IED) along a road near the village of Bahbahani, Iraq, south of Baghdad, Tuesday.
The IED was secured by an explosive ordnance disposal team.
Iraqi Police detain suspects during raid in Tall Afar

BAGHDAD – Iraqi Police forces, with Coalition advisors, conducted a raid Dec. 6 in Abdan, near Tall Afar, to capture an insurgent associated with al Qaeda in Iraq, detaining seven suspects during the operation.
The insurgent is believed to be responsible for supplying weapons to AQI and providing them with funding and a safe house for carrying out attacks against Iraqi Security Forces in the Tall Afar area.
There was minimal damage done to the objective and there were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi forces or Coalition forces casualties.

BAGHDAD – 4th Iraqi Army Division forces, with Coalition advisors, captured an insurgent sniper Dec. 6 in Bayji believed to be responsible for direct and indirect attacks targeting Coalition forces.
He is also allegedly involved in improvised explosive device and car bombing attacks in the Bayji area.
The insurgent sniper is associated with other insurgent cells within Iraq. Iraqi forces also detained an additional suspect during the raid.
There was minimal damage done to the objective and there were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi forces or Coalition forces casualties.
Iraqi Security Forces capture insurgents in Yusufiyah

BAGHDAD – Special Iraqi Army forces, with Coalition advisers, captured six suspected insurgents during a raid Dec. 5 in Yusufiyah, south of Baghdad, believed to be responsible for conducting kidnapping and murder activities and improvised explosive device attacks against Iraqi civilians and Iraqi Security Forces.
Iraqi forces detained nine additional suspects during the raid. There was minimal damage done to the objective and there were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi forces or Coalition forces casualties.
Capture of Terrorist Emirs Gives al-Qaida in Iraq Nowhere to Turn
BAGHDAD, Iraq – On Wednesday, the Government of Iraq released the names and photos of several suspected senior-level Ansar al Sunna emirs who were captured by Coalition Forces during a series of raids in mid-November.
The AAS network is responsible for improvised explosive device attacks and suicide attacks on Iraqi government, Coalition Forces and Iraqi civilians. The AAS network is also responsible for multiple kidnappings, small arms attacks and other crimes in the central and northern part of Iraq.
One terrorist emir, Abu Mohammed aka Ismail, AAS Emir of Yusifiyah was killed during a raid late November.
The suspected Ansar al Sunna emirs who were captured are:
National level
- Ramadan Muhammad Salih Ahmad ((Bilbas)) aka Abu Mustafa, AAS Emir of Iraq. Abu Mustafa is a founding member of AAS.
- Taha Ahmad Pir-Dawud Ahmad ((Surchi)), aka Hajji Sa’id, Senior AAS representative and al-Qaida facilitator.
- ‘Adnan ‘Abdallah ‘Alaywi Muhammad ((al-‘Ithawi)), aka Abu Jaffar, AAS Secretary. He was Abu Mustafa’s personal assistant and he was responsible for arranging AAS senior-level meetings.

- Hatim Abd-al-Ghafar Muslim Muhammad ((al Shimar)), aka Abu Taha, AAS Emir of Al Qa’im and Western al Anbar. He allegedly was a Colonel in the Iraqi Army before the war.
- ‘Abd-al-Basit ‘Abd-al-Razzaq Hasan ‘Ali ((al-‘Abbasi)), aka Abu Asim, AAS Emir of Tikrit.

Fourteen insurgents killed and buildings destroyed in Ramadi

CAMP FALLUJAH, IRAQ - Coalition Forces used tank main gun rounds and precision guided ordnance to destroy buildings from which insurgents were attacking in Ramadi Wednesday.
Iraqi Soldiers and Coalition Forces were attacked with a heavy volume of small arms fire from numerous insurgent positions including the Al Haqq Mosque. Iraqi Soldiers and Coalition Forces returned fire with a combination of small arms fire, machine gun fire and tank main gun rounds. When the enemy's attack did not cease, Coalition Forces used precision guided ordnance on the buildings being used as insurgent fighting positions, and the buildings were destroyed.
One Coalition member was killed and three were wounded during the operations. Fourteen insurgents were killed. There were no reports of civilian casualties.
"When insurgents create situations such as occurred Wednesday, Coalition Forces must defend themselves," said Coalition spokesman Marine Lt. Col. Bryan Salas. "While we are mindful to limit damage, we must respond with necessary and proportional force to protect our forces and Iraq from the insurgents."

BAGHDAD – Special Iraqi Army forces, with coalition advisers, captured a terrorist leader during a raid Dec. 7 in Fallujah responsible for directing sniper, improvised explosive device and car bombing attacks against Iraqi security forces. He also participated in the abduction and execution of several Iraqi Police officers.
The terrorist leader has also directed and participated in an extensive murder and intimidation campaign and the harboring of other terrorist fighters. He is a senior leader al Qaeda in Iraq leader in the area and controls several insurgent groups operating in the Al Anbar Province.
Minimal damage was done to the objective and there were no Iraqi civilian or coalition forces casualties.
20 TERRORISTS KILLED, WEAPONS CACHES DESTROYED
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition Forces killed 20 terrorists Friday morning while targeting al-Qaida terrorists in the Thar Thar area.
Coalition Forces targeted the location based on intelligence reports that indicated associates with links to multiple al-Qaida in Iraq networks were operating in the area.
Ground forces were searching buildings at the targeted location when they began receiving heavy machine gunfire from one of the buildings. The ground forces returned fire, killing two armed terrorists.
Despite efforts to subdue the remaining armed terrorists, Coalition Forces continued to be threatened by enemy fire, causing forces to call in close air support. A Coalition aircraft performed the air strike, resulting in 18 more armed terrorists killed.
During a search of the objective, Coalition Forces found multiple weapons caches consisting of AK-47s, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, anti-personnel mines, explosives, blasting caps and suicide vests. All these items were destroyed on site.
Coalition Forces also found that two of the terrorists killed were women. Al-Qaida in Iraq has both men and women supporting and facilitating their operations unfortunately.
This is another step closer to defeating al-Qaida in Iraq and helping establish a safe and peaceful Iraq. Coalition Forces will continue to target not only senior al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders, but all terrorists regardless of their titles or positions within the community.
Baghdad ‘Eagle Brigade’ detains seven suspected terrorists Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO
MAHMUDIYAH, Iraq – Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 4th “Eagle” Brigade, 6th Iraqi Division, detained seven terrorist suspects Dec. 5 near Mahmudiyah, Iraq, approximately 12 miles south of Baghdad.
The seven suspects had been listed on the Iraqi Army Brigade’s high-value target list. The operation to detain the seven was conceived, planned and executed entirely by the IA battalion, with minimal U.S. advisory liaison.
During the operation several shots were fired. No one was injured. The suspects are being held by the Iraqi Army for questioning.

BAGHDAD – 1st Iraqi Army Division forces, with Coalition advisors, captured two suspected insurgent cell members during a raid Dec. 8 in Khalidiyah that are believed to be responsible for conducting improvised explosive device attacks against the Iraqi Security Force.
The insurgents are also allegedly involved in storing explosives and components used to produce IEDs.
Iraqi forces detained three additional suspects during the raid.
There was minimal damage done to the objective and there were no Iraqi civilian, Iraqi Force or Coalition Force casualties.
Iraqi National Police Raid Nets Weapons, Six Suspects

BAGHDAD – Iraqi national Policemen from the 6th Brigade 2nd Division INP seized two weapons caches and detained six men after two-days of operations in the al Doura neighborhood of the Iraqi capital Dec 7.
Early morning raids netting the capture of the men and weapons were the result of tips from residents in the neighborhood.
The national police seized a total of three assault rifles, two hand grenades, two pistols, bomb-making manuals and assorted materials. The six detainees are being held for further questioning.
