Gambling - Paul Flynn doesn't get it.

My MP does not get it?

He asks the question...

How widespread is Internet gambling? - Answer very.

A middle-aged woman constituent of another Welsh MP has had a very similar experience to that of one of my constituents. Both had never gambled in their lives before. Both were attracted to games with familiar titles. Mine was 'Deal or No Deal' Both won at first.

Presumably that is the lure. Then they spiralled into repeated losses. Both were urged to continue playing to recoup the cash. Mine lost her life's saving of £40,000. The other woman lost £85,000. Both have contemplated suicide.

**Both won at first, well that is what they term beginers luck.

As for losing the money, well that is why they call it gambling. You bet and yes the odds are stacked in the companies favour, thats the way it is from the humble fruit machine flashing away in the corner to the bookies on the high street. Even the humble scratch card and lottery that millions play each week are a form of gambling and shock horror the odds are stacked against people from the start.

Quite what the fact that she is middle aged has to do with anything I don't know?

Using a Debit Card means the money is gone irretrievably. This is very alarming. Is there some special allure to Internet gambling to people who would never dream of going into a betting shop? If these cases are typical, the firms must be making huge profits. They appear to be few controls over them and the victims have no chance of a cooling off period.

**Cooling off period, is he having a laugh? Its not a loan Mr Flynn. Anyone who has ever made a bet and lost would love to have a cooling off period and I am sure they would change their mind.

As for the term "victims", they would be a victim how exactly? They choose to log onto a gambling site, they choose to enter their card details on that site, they choose to play, they start to lose and keep playing.

Human ingenuity finds infinite ways of robbing the unwary.
**And a fool and their money are soon parted.
