There is lots of talk of late about sacking sub-standard teachers
Sir Cyril Taylor said there were about 17,000 "poor" teachers in England.
They were unable to control classes and were damaging the education of about 400,000 children, he told the BBC.
But is it going to happen? Not bloody likely. Sadly should the proper thing be done, which is for the 17,000 teachers to be sacked forthwith then there would be a strike.
PM Bottler Gordon Brown would lose support from the unions and so we will have lots of talk about raising standards, re-training and the matter will be spun and re-spun until the figure of 17,000 has been reduced by about 16,000 and then New Labour will blame it all on the Tories.
Then again even if the 17,000 are removed who do you replace them with? What with the crap thrown at the profession on a regular basis by politicians who use it as a testing ground for pet ideas, and when said ideas fail then blame the teachers. It makes teaching a career that is not first choice for most people.Tags:New Labour
