Yet more fuckwittery from the Government's chief scientist, Prof Sir David King who has stated that: Women must stop admiring men who drive sports cars if they want to join the fight against global warming, the Government's chief scientist has urged.
Professor Sir David King said governments could only do so much to control greenhouse gas emissions and it was time for a cultural change among the British public.
And he singled out women who find supercar drivers "sexy", adding that they should divert their affections to men who live more environmentally-friendly lives.
**So lets see then given the choice between a chap who lives in a decent house and can provide for her offspring or some unwashed eco-warrior with BO & a beard who drives an eco-wank mobile the woman is supposed to go for the eco warrior.
His comments were greeted with anger by sports car drivers who insisted that their vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions were tiny compared with those from four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Sir David, who is due to retire as the UK's Chief Scientific Adviser at the end of the year, said individuals needed to change their behaviour.
"I was asked at a lecture by a young woman about what she could do and I told her to stop admiring young men in Ferraris," he said.
"What I was saying is that you have got to admire people who are conserving energy and not those wilfully using it."
**But its not about energy, its about money you see Prof King its quite simple. Flash motor = money. And rightly or wrongly lots of women find that attractive.
Sir David, who persuaded the Government to start using the Toyota Prius, a hybrid car that claims to have lower emissions than most conventional cars, added: "Government has so many levers that it can pull - when it comes to the business sector it is quite effective.
**Toyora Prius a boring eco-wank mobile, whilst a Ferrari is style, good engineering and attractive to a lot of people.
"As soon as you come to the individual, however, they will buy a Ferrari, not because it is cheap to run or has low carbon dioxide emissions, but because young women think it is sexy to see men driving Ferraris. That is the area where a culture change is needed."
A Ferrari F430 produces 420g/km of carbon dioxide - more than four times as much as the hybrid petrol-electric Prius.
**And can Prof King also produce figures for how often drivers of the hybrid petrol-electric Prius get laid, when compared to the average Ferrari F430 driver? I will hazzard a guess that the Ferrari driver gets a lot more action in the sack.
Car enthusiasts criticised Sir David for attempting to lay the blame for climate change on a small number of drivers who own sports cars.
Peter Everingham, secretary the Ferrari Owners Club, said: "Nearly 90 per cent of people who buy Ferraris are married so they are not looking to impress women by buying their car.
"There are fewer than 5,600 cars made a year by Ferrari. To suggest Ferraris are a factor in climate change is unhelpful."
**A bit like most of what this government produces, lots of hot air with no facts to back them up.
Sir David, who will next month publish a book on climate change called Hot Topic, insists his comments were intended as an example of the scale of culture change that is needed in society in order to combat global warming.
As chief scientist he has been instrumental in driving the climate change issue to the top of the political agenda.
**And he has a book out to its all good publicity for Prof King, not that I would suggest or hint in a million years that the Prof would play the media in order to boost his book sales, but articles like this one in The Telegraph don't harm his chances of a few extra books shifting in Waterstones.
Three years ago he sparked controversy when he claimed that global warming was a more serious threat than that of global terrorism.
Sir David said: "For a while I was quite unpopular at Number 10, but the point is that the Prime Minister then understood this was a very important issue.
"Now I would go one step further and say that our civilisation has never had to face up to as big a challenge as the climate change challenge of the 21st century."
**Well a couple of points there if he believes its worse than terrorism I might suggest he go for a walk in certain repressive nations in the Middle East and take that up with the "militants" there. The other is that I think the Prof is one of those chaps who having never had the chance to own a sports car earlier in life, now either is not allowed own one by his good lady wife (The word pussywhipped leaps to mind here) or is one of those who can't see the point of such cars and so doesn't want anyone else to have one.
Typical of New Labour types to think that they have the moral right to tell people who they can or can not fancy. Whats the odds that Prof King is suffering a twinge of envy and doesn't see much action in the bedroom either?
At a guess I reckon that Prof King is a tweed jacket wearer(with patches on the sleeves as well), reads The Guardian and bangs on about saving wildlife - whilst owning a few cats who reduce the local bird population with an efficiency that would put the SS to shame- an who no doubt name drops "celebs" he has met whilst tree hugging. In fact I would sooner be chained up in Boy George's flat than spend a moment in that chaps company.

Very good, like it.
how did this clown get to be 'chief scientist'?
i hope he dies of TB before he manages to kill off every last badger in england
I think that he followed the normal procedures for any job under New Labour, slip a large amount of cash to the party.
Hope you don't mind with DK in the news and blogs etc.
Sir david wasn't the author of the climate change terrorism risk assessment I was.
I wrote it in a United Nations Environment and Development UK report commissioned by the Government in 2002.
Me and the girlfriend had just had still born twins and I was pissed off with the build uptowar inIraq and the inevitable deaths of more children. So I wrote an anti war piece in a UN report on a Government website.
I believe Sir david may have been a member of the UNED group I wrote it for. I assume he liked it and it was used after the invasion.
If you ever see him interviwed is is always vague or changes the story how he came up with it. Don't think he wants to say he copied it from Roger Thomas. That would have made me the media star, not him.
