Michael Nazir Ali has stated what many people - myself included - have known for a very long time, that there are no go areas here in the UK.
The original article is here.
Islamic extremists have created "no-go" areas across Britain where it is too dangerous for non-Muslims to enter, one of the Church of England's most senior bishops warns today.
Those of a different faith or race may find it difficult to live or work there because of hostility to them. In many ways, this is but the other side of the coin to far-Right intimidation. Attempts have been made to impose an "Islamic" character on certain areas, for example, by insisting on artificial amplification for the Adhan, the call to prayer.
Needless to say the usual suspects have come out to claim that he is wrong and are throwing their liberal toys out of the Umma's pram.
One of these is Yasmin Alibhai-Brown who writes her 2p worth here.
She starts off on the attack:
The nutter, I thought when first skimming through yet another fundamentalist intervention by the Bishop of Rochester, The Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, Pakistani son of Christian converts. Or maybe he is again seeking attention because he needs it so, sad guy that he is.
Sad she calls him well no brave and honest for expressing what many want to say but fear exactly her type of attack. That he sees what is going on in towns and cities across the UK, the slow spread of moslem enclaves and the driving out of local culture.
It could be his disappointment speaking – he never got to be an Archbishop, and possibly still thinks it should have been him when they were choosing the great men of York and Canterbury. Whatever his psychological flaws (and in true Islamic spirit I extend my sympathy to the brother), his latest rant in a right-wing newspaper cannot and should not be forgiven. There you go see, its all a spin job as he never reached the office of Archbishop. Plus that classic line his "latest rant in a right-wing newspaper cannot and should not be forgiven." - so for expression his view - a correct one I feel - he should not be forgiven, well all I can add is up yours.
He seems to take pleasure in divisive rhetoric and stoking up hatred, this man of God who abuses the power vested in him. In the past five years Nazir-Ali has stood out against gay rights and the ordination of gay priests; he condemns multi-faith initiatives, and, most immoral of all, pronounced that the war on Iraq was justifiable when his own church nobly and bravely condemned the offensive which has led to the devastation of an entire country. And so it go's on, she attempts to smear him with the race-hate tag and do her best to claim that he is some church equivalent of a Combat 18 boot boy with a skin head and pair of Doc Martins ready to go muslim bashing.
Then she is followed by New Labour red squirrel and waste of space Hazel Blears who bleats on the BBC website here.
The communities secretary said the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali's comments were "pretty unhelpful" and he should spell out which areas he was talking about.Well maybe Mrs Blears should get out and take a walk down many a back road in my home city of Newport. The feeling of being the only white face is one that is uncomfortable, a knowledge that as you are stared at that you are an outsider, not one of the locals. Hell people all over the UK can relate to what areas the Rt Rev was on about, many of them, the ones who can afford it have moved out of them.
The only one who speaks English and you can feel a sense of relief when you get out of those enclaves, I will call them for lack of a better term a moslem ghetto.
But back to Labour's squirrel Blears who carries on:
She said: "I don't recognise the description that he's talked about no-go areas, and people feeling intimidated, and people feeling hostile to each other.Well if Mrs Blears wants to ever leave the ivory towers of Westminster, I would be quite happy to show her around some of the more vibrant ethnic areas of my home city. Hell I would be quite happy to supply her with as many peanuts as she can eat, can't say fairer than that.
Oh and The Guardian also went on the attack, followed by some more of the usual suspects.
Mohammed Shafiq, from the Ramadhan Foundation, said: "Mr Nazir-Ali is promoting hatred towards Muslims and should resign."
Ajmal Masroor, of the Islamic Society of Great Britain, said: "It's a distortion of reality. Our communities are far more integrated than they were 10 years ago.
"If the Church of England had an iota of fairness they would take serious action."
Although he fails to state quite what serious action he wants, would Mr Masroor be happy with him resigning or does he literally want his head? Maybe 40 lashes or some other form of Sharia punishment would suffice?
Ah, Allah curse the infidel and his rights of free expression. Sorry guys but it is not promoting hatred, its expressing an opinion. You know the same way that you got all wound up when cartoons of Mo turned up in Danish papers few years back.
We gave you the right to march and carry banners stating "behead those who insult islam", now that was offensive to me but again its all free speech.
William Hague, the shadow foreign secretary, said: "I don't think that view is factually correct. I'm not sure where these no-go areas are, I don't recognise that description." - Again the same offer go's out to William as I send out to red squirrel, I am willing to show him areas where the moslems are in the majority, where non moslems are few in number and one feels that this is not a safe area to be in.
Anyway back to the usual suspects, and of course no bashing of the Rev Ali would be complete without a spokesbeard from the MCB:
Inayat Bunglawala, assistant secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, accused the bishop of scaremongering. "Bishop Nazir-Ali appears to be exercised by what he perceives as the decline in the influence of Christianity upon this country, but trying to frantically scaremonger about Islam and Muslims seems to us to be a rather unethical way of trying to reverse this," he said.
Typical statement from the MCB. Oh and the Lib Dem's need there couple of minutes of air time as well: Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg said the idea of no-go areas was “a gross caricature of reality”, and Mr Hague told Sky News the bishop had “probably put it too strongly”.

4 people have spoken:
Yeah, well I just looked at the results of a poll (in the Times, I think) where 82% of the respondents think the Bishop got it right.
The voices you quote are just the usual apologists, and nobody seriously thinks they represent reality any more.
In other words they're a pack of lying, cowardly bastards. :-)
Yeah 82% think that we have moslem ghetto's here in the UK.
Shame that more do not speak out against the wholesale genocide of our culture by the moslem hoards.
Listen, I have been voicing the opinion that we are going to be engulfed with radical Islam. Not, Islam as we know it. I have known about the ghettos for years and wondered how the city councils could permit their existance. I also wondered why the police were not imposing some form of law. Are we as British Citizens (Islamic or not) not allowed to walk the streets of any area in Britain? You cannot trespass on common ground (public thoroughways ,streets) only on private land.
"In the past five years Nazir-Ali has stood out against gay rights and the ordination of gay priests;"
Like Islam is the bastion of homosexuals or something.
