A Labour MP was forced to resign when his wife and daughter were caught using a rail pass for his use only.
Mr Mardy Jones broke the rules by sending two tickets to his wife and daughter.
They boarded a steam train at Pontypridd but were confronted by ticket inspectors, who discovered that one of the tickets was six weeks out of date.
Mr Mardy Jones confessed that the family were short of cash. MPs were paid only £360 a year then.
Charges were pressed and the MP resigned his seat a day before the case was due to come to court. Parris and Maguire report that he pleaded guilty to transferring two non-transferable tickets to his wife and helping her to travel without paying a fare.Mr and Mrs Mardy Jones were fined £2 each at Marylebone Court. He was ordered to pay £31 10s in costs or face 42 days in jail.
The magistrate, Hay Halkett, told reporters at the court: "It is rather disgraceful to find an MP involved in a case like this.
"However disgusting this case is, and I think it is very disgusting, we have to remember that Mr Mardy Jones has risen to his present position from a coal mine."
**This happened in 1930, when MP's still had a small amount of decency about them. These days short of getting caught flagrante delicio in a child porn scandal an MP would see no reason for resigning.
Hell if it was a Labour MP you could bet the spin machine would be at work doing damage limitation and he would come back into the party after some "therapy"
Cosider this modern day story of David Blunkett MP, scribbler for the The Sun and chap on the board of a company bidding for software for ID cards - no wonder he likes them!

2 people have spoken:
Fido;
Speaking of those whome were born around the 1930s;
Serious question for you;
How would you convince a person, of lets say advancing years, that the Labour Party which they've grown up with, and voted for all of their lives, is now a different animal all together?.
What peices of evidence do you attempt to show them?.
Remembering that the internet is a system they know nothing about.
How can you at least make them question their own entrenched beliefs, that only the Labour party will look after them in the here and now?.
In some areas of this Country, you could pin a red rosette on a donkey, and it would be elected.
These people dont think for themselves. They've been conditioned, "from cradle to grave" to "Vote Labour".
They dont realise that these days, "Vote Labour" means getting some-one like commrade Kelly.
I have discussed this issue with many a soul.
Those whom are open to debate, will at least think about it, but others....
Its driving me mad.....
I need thoughtful help, (not smart arsed comments).
If you were a candidate in a Labour heartland of Britain today, how would you address people whom had voted Labour all of their lives, in an attempt to get them to at least think about changing their ways?.
Nu Labour have got to go....
And the sooner the better.
Some people will elect a hatstand should a red rosette be on it - Ed Balls being a case in point...
