Forcing MPs to publish their expenses is a 'substantial intrusion' into their private lives, the High Court heard.
Disclosing a detailed breakdown of their claims for running a second home, including addresses, might attract 'the mad and the bad', Nigel Griffin QC said.
'They might simply not want the world to know the details of how they were furnishing their home in some particular respect,' he added.
**Then might I suggest that if MP's are upset at this information going into the public domain that they furnish their homes - like the rest of us have to - out of their own money.
He claimed the Information Tribunal, which ordered the MPs to make their allowances public, had 'erred in law'.
But James Goudie QC, for the Information Commissioner, said: 'The decision of an expert tribunal made after a decision by an expert regulator should be the end of it.'
MPs have come under criticism in past months to be more open about how they spend taxpayers' money.
In February, the Information Tribunal ruled that details of the additional expenses of 14 MPs, including Gordon Brown and David Cameron, should be released.
But a legal challenge led by commons speaker Michael Martin was mounted. Westminster's anti-sleaze supremo, Sir Christopher Kelly, said the move suggested politicians had something to hide.
Apart from worries over making addresses public, the appeal had no legal standing, Mr Goudie claimed. A judgment will be made later.
**I will also add that what I find totally wrong is the "substantial intrusion" into my wealth by MP's who get their travel subsidized, their mortgages subsidized and a sodding food allowance on top of their rather large wage packets.
Then we hear the nerve of the Rt. Hon gentlemen & ladies when they claim to be able to relate to the problems of both the poor and the working person.I challenge any MP to live on less than 200 notes a week, have to pay their own train fares to work and back out of that amount, as well as all the utility bills, get their food - impossible in the case of John Prescott or even the commons speaker Mr Martin - as struggle to pay the mortgage/rent with no help from anyone.
In fact I would argue that MP's having outsourced most of their work over the last 10-15 years to the EU, should have their wages cut to reflect the 70%+ of laws that are now dealt with via the EU.
I think no expenses what so ever and a moderate 15-20K per year would be about right for the average do nothing backbench MP.
Actually fuck it, scrap all the bastards pay and perks. Lets get a hanging party formed and clear out Parliament.
