Something has to be done, so Gordon & co have decided to prosecute anyone found with a knife.

There is another way, he could always raise the tax on knives.

Maybe an escalator tax like he has had imposed on booze. After all we all can see how sucessful that was in stopping people from drinking, it has cleared the streets of feral chavscum getting hammered on four packs of cheap cider and made the UK the much dreamed of socialist utopia.
