James Gordon "Bottler" Brown, bottles yet again.

Ministers have denied caving in to the energy companies after (James) Gordon Brown ruled out one-off payments to help families struggling to pay soaring energy bills.

The Prime Minister faced an angry backlash after he used a keynote speech on Thursday night to make clear that there would be no "short-term gimmicks or giveaways" when the Government unveils its much-vaunted energy plan next week.

Trade unions and Labour MPs responded by launching fresh demands for a windfall tax on the profits of the energy companies.

**Gimmicks by fuck he says, fuck him right in his empty left eyesocket. Quite how in the name of all that is holy is it a gimmick when we had this in the Times:

MORE than 7m families who receive child benefit are to be given a one-off payment of £150 to help meet soaring fuel bills under plans being drawn up by Gordon Brown.

The £1 billion handout is expected to form a key part of the prime minister’s autumn fightback after a dismal first 14 months in power...

When asked whether the payments would be aimed at disadvantaged groups, Bender replied: “No, a fuel rebate for everybody on child benefit.”

Now onto the windfall tax.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn rejected claims that the Government had buckled in the face of pressure from the energy companies. "Nobody has caved in to anybody," he said.

He said that discussions with the companies were continuing and that the Government still expected them to make a "contribution". He refused to be drawn on whether a windfall tax had been ruled out.

Only one problem with this, quite how Gordon will expect people to invest in UK energy in the future if he clobbers them with a tax on any profits I don't know?

Remember him going cap in hand like a clunking one eye'd Oliver to ask the Saudi's for some more.

Also does anyone seriously think that this windfall will be wisely invested by Gordon & co?... Based on their past record huge sums will be pissed up against the nearest wall whilst more is spent on beancounters, state employees, quangos and everyone else with a vested interest in El Gordo's sleazy government.

Some more on how shit James Gordon Brown is...
