Gordonomics - The state wants to know how much you drink in order to get jobseekers allowance.

PEOPLE who lose their jobs could be denied unemployment benefit if they refuse to tell the government how much they drink.

New powers will allow for individuals who apply for jobseeker’s allowance to be forced to take compulsory alcohol tests if officials do not believe what they say about their drinking habits. Those who refuse to cooperate could be deprived of the benefit for six months. Officials will also be able to check the truth of applicants’ answers through other agencies, such as the police. The proposals are part of the government’s welfare reform bill.

Note the words "could be deprived", there is no could about it. Those regulations will be cast in fucking stone and anyone who disagrees, thinks its not their business will lose their benefits.

The Department for Work and Pensions confirmed yesterday that the legislation contains powers to deal with those who have problems with both alcohol and drugs. However, it insisted that questioning would not be “routine or instrusive”. Pilot schemes will focus on those who are addicted to crack cocaine and heroin.

Anita Coles of Liberty, the civil rights group, said: “As if the indignity of losing your job isn’t bad enough, now the government seeks powers to force desperate jobseekers to answer intrusive questions.”

You can just picture the scene, having lost your job and having to seek aid from the state you are quizzed as to your drinking habits by minions of the state.

As if losing ones pride, ones income and means of self sufficiency is not enough now one won't be allowed to drown their sorrows in Gordon's brave new cool Britannia.

Gordon's problem is he thinks that the way to resolve the rapidly deepening economic crisis is via 'stimulus packages' with magic money plucked off the magic printing press.

With the ultimate of getting the banks to lend again and rebuild the very credit bubble and circumstances that landed us in the shit in the first place.

Like holding an alcoholics meeting in the local pub, you get full attendance but they all end up dead.

If the country was run properly, folk wouldn't need to turn to the drink.
