** The Blair regime has decided that despite being beaten three times in a row they are going to press ahead on this and push through again with the idea of a National ID card scheme. Even with a loss record higher than that of Tim Henman in a tennis final they still wont give up on this, shame that they give up so easily on all the other things they try...crime, law & order, perverts in the schools and so on.

To sum up Europhobia : "We couldn't give a pissing fuck about you, your pathetic concerns about 'liberty', the checks and balances of the constitution, the traditional role of parliament of scrutinising public accounts, OR the potential cost to the taxpayer, so cunt the fuck right off, you twats."

Now I will add that I think that a national ID system is in itself an ok idea, but the fact is telling people that they have to stump up more cash for the privilage of carrying another bit of plastic in their wallet is not going to win it any votes, not with cyclops Gordon Brown keeping is good eye on your money and dreaming up new stealth taxes every day. Talking of taxes the way its going we will soon be paying more in tax than our tutonic friends in Germania.

Then there is the arguement that it will stop those nasty terrorist types, well no it will stop illegal migrants from working - until they can get a false ID on the black market, or work for an employer who cares not if they have any valid ID. On the terror front I think that the pals of Osama Bin Laden will manage to get hold of some of the new swanky ID cards somehow, and has anyone actually mentioned to fat boy Charles Clarke that a lot of our terrorists these days are actually UK citizens who will qualify for an ID card.

A part of the problem is that as its very easy to clone false ID's and get hold of fake N.I numbers, it follows that using fake ID anyone out to make a quick buck will be able to get an ID card if they chose to do so. Criminals have fake passports no matter how many fancy holograms the government puts on them.
The only reason I am in favour of them is that when I need to show ID for goods and services it will speed the whole process up a tad rather than having to produce 2 or 3 forms of ID as I may have to at this moment in time.

Add to that that nobody actually has any trust left in this government of ol smiler Blair and dont believe a word they say about who will access the data it holds, had they pushed this in the 1st term when they got into power it may well have got onto the statute books no problem at all. Still New Labour = New Fuck Up.

Could be worse, they could always move Ruth Kelly from Education and put her in charge of the project....

And anyone remember ol smiler Blairs plan to list the icons of Englishness? Well it seems that fox hunting has become one of the symbols of Englishness.

The Government banned it last year - now fox hunting is set to become an official icon of 'Englishness'. The countryside sport is leading a public vote to find institutions to add to a list of top cultural symbols. The Government recently launched its icons project, and asked members of the public to nominate the things which most represent England. Fox hunting has since been backed by 92% of online voters, putting it ahead of other popular choices like Big Ben, St George's flag, red telephone boxes and the pub.

Altogether now.....TALLY HOOOOOOOOO. Foxes outsmart smiler Blair My vote went though went for the British pub, the one place where us plebs can put the world to rights.

U.S. tally of wounded drops 26%

Yes thats a whole 26%. The number of U.S. troops wounded in Iraq fell by more than a quarter in 2005 from a year earlier, Pentagon records show. Military officials call that a sign that insurgent attacks have declined in the face of elections and stronger Iraqi security forces.

The number of wounded dropped from 7,990 in 2004 to 5,939, according to the Defense Department. There hasn't been much change in the number of deaths, however. Pentagon figures show 844 U.S. troops were killed in the Iraq war during 2005, compared with 845 in 2004.

Soldiers discover large cache of weapons, munitions

BAGHDAD , Iraq Task Force Ironhorse Soldiers, using metal detectors, discovered a large weapons cache Jan. 14 in the rural Abu Ghraib area. It was buried and spread out over 150 meters along a canal.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry discovered 15 82 mm mortars, 24 60 mm mortars, 30 25 mm anti-personnel rounds, one Russian sub-machine gun, two U.S. maps, 12 rolls of detonation cord with blasting caps, one 155 mm artillery round, 20 pounds of homemade explosive powder, one rocket propelled grenade launcher with nine RPG rounds and one Russian 30 mm grenade launcher.

Soldiers also found 3,000 rounds of 12.7 mm rounds, 20 boxes of 120 mm mortar charges and 11 boxes of other assorted mortar charges. Also found were one 7.62 mm machinegun barrel, four RPG scopes, five hand grenades, 400 7.62 mm rounds, two mortar sights, one recoilless rifle, four recoilless rounds, one belt of 9 mm rounds, one rifle butt stock, one black mask, multiple improvised explosive device material (timers, batteries, remote devices, spools of wire) and assorted propaganda

18th Airborne Corps Artillery transfers authority

CAMP VICTORY, Iraq – Service members gathered on Camp Victory Jan. 17 to witness the Transfer of Authority between the 18th Airborne Corps Artillery and the 5th Corps Artillery.

The 18th Airborne Corps Artillery arrived in Iraq in January, 2005, and served on Camp Victory as the Effects Coordination Cell and Force Field Artillery Headquarters for Multi National Corps – Iraq and has now transferred these responsibilities to the service members of the 5th Corps Artillery.

During the TOA, MNC-I Commander Lt. Gen. John R. Vines, thanked the outgoing Soldiers and the Coalition Forces for their hard work and dedication to the mission. He also welcomed the new troops and wished them continued luck during their tour in Iraq.

“This is an historic time for the people of Iraq and it is made possible by the men and women of the coalition,” Vines said. “I could not have asked for more from the 18th Corps Artillery. They were absolutely brilliant.”

Brig. Gen. Peter M. Vangjel, outgoing commander, welcomed the incoming commander, Col. Richard G. Cardillo Jr., and his troops while also praising his Soldiers for their many accomplishments throughout the deployment.

“You all pushed through the frustration of performing unfamiliar duties and exceeded all expectations,” Vangjel said.

Vangjel ended his speech with a quote from President Theodore Roosevelt that he felt accurately captured the efforts to make a difference in Iraq.

"It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better.

“The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause - who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat."

The 18th Airborne Corps Artillery will return to Fort Bragg, N.C., to monitor and support its battalions deployed in support of OIF IV, while preparing the remaining troops for deployment to OIF V.
