Clinton described as "appalling" the 12 cartoons published in a Danish newspaper in September depicting Prophet Mohammed and causing uproar in the Muslim world.

"None of us are totally free of stereotypes about people of different races, different ethnic groups, and different religions ... there was this appalling example in northern Europe, in Denmark ... these totally outrageous cartoons against Islam," he said.

The cartoons, including a portrayal of the prophet wearing a time-bomb-shaped turban, were reprinted in a Norwegian magazine in January, sparking uproar in the Muslim world where images of the prophet are considered blasphemous.

MND-B Soldier awarded Bronze Star; Attacks on decline

Iraqi and Coalition Force members know the risks involved in being on the tip of the spear in the fight for a secure, democratic and stable Iraq. In the face of terrorist and insurgent violence, efforts continue to decrease casualties and valor is recognized.

The U.S. Army’s Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Richard A. Cody presented the Bronze Star for Valor to Sgt. Jeremy McDonald in an awards ceremony at Camp Liberty, Iraq Feb. 13.

McDonald, who is assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, received the medal for his actions following a terrorist attack Jan. 15.

McDonald was the squad leader and lead element on a dismounted patrol. He was attempting to stop a suspicious vehicle when the occupants attacked at point-blank range with AK-47 fire, striking McDonald five times. Although wounded, McDonald returned fire. His squad members rushed into the fray to rescue McDonald, who continued firing on the terrorists even as his Soldiers pulled him away from the vehicle. McDonald secured the area with his Soldiers until he was forced to evacuate 45 minutes later.

As efforts to curb violence in the region progress, IED attacks continue to challenge Iraqi and Coalition Forces. One such attack Feb.14 killed a U.S. Marine and injured six Coalition Force Soldiers.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. Feb. 14 in al Anbar, an IED detonated near a military vehicle killing one U.S. Marine. Two unidentified personnel were also injured in the attack.

In a separate incident in Baghdad, a convoy was attacked resulting in four Coalition Force Soldiers receiving injuries. A military vehicle was also damaged in the attack.

Coalition and Iraqi Forces are not the only ones victimized by IED attacks. In Baghdad Feb. 15, for instance, three children were killed when a roadside bomb exploded. The children were on their way to school, according to Reuters. An Interior Ministry official cited in the Reuters report suspects the bomb was meant for a police patrol.

In spite of these attacks, Iraqi and Coalition Forces' combined operation efforts continue to help inhibit violent activity in the area and decrease the number of casualties and attacks.

“What we're finding is, based on the increased capability of the Iraqi security force, they have become an increased threat to the enemy, to the insurgents,” said Multi-national Force Iraq spokesman Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch in a press conference Feb. 9. “Attack levels of the last three weeks have continued to decline, and the attack levels now are the lowest they've been in the last three months.”

In Baghdad, Iraqi police and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers detained suspected terrorists Feb. 13 and destroyed a weapons cache.

National Police from 2nd Battalion, 4th Commandos, reported a drive-by shooting on their headquarters in Baghdad by anti-Iraqi forces at approximately 2 a.m. Feb. 13. The Iraqi commandos fired back at the terrorists, disabling their vehicle. One terrorist was wounded and detained as the terrorists ran from their vehicle.

The vehicle contained one rocket-propelled grenade launcher, RPG rounds, AK-47s, a machine gun with 300 rounds of ammunition, hand grenades and other explosives.

The 2-4 Commandos evacuated the wounded terrorist to a local hospital. There were no reported 2-4 Commando injuries.

Soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division discovered a large weapons cache in the Babil province Feb.13. The cache contained more than 600 mortar rounds, 26 cases ammunition and two cases of anti-aircraft rounds.

And the bad news.....

MARAWI CITY -- Thousands of angry Filipino Muslims “beheaded” two effigies of cartoonists and set a Danish flag on fire in a protest over the controversial caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

The protesters marched through the streets of this southern Philippine city and demanded death for the artists who drew the cartoons that first appeared in a Danish newspaper in September. ...

On Wednesday, about 3,000 Filipino Muslims chanting "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is great," ripped apart and burned four Danish flags in a protest outside Denmark’s honorary consulate in the financial district of Makati.
