A MEDIA-sales manager who was harassed and suffered discrimination because he is gay has been awarded almost £120,000 compensation - the highest award ever granted by an employment tribunal for bias on the grounds of sexual preference.
Jonah Ditton, from Paisley, was called "a wee poof" and suffered malicious and insulting abuse on a daily basis from his colleagues. He was sacked after just eight days at his new job after the firm said he was not "psychologically balanced". - Translated into English this all means that he was subjected to a bit of office ribbing from the blokes in the office. See blokes do that, take the piss out of the new guy/gal and see where they fit in in the company wolf pack. Seems our Jonah was not an alpha male.
So lets see he is in the job for just 8 days, if he does a five day week then he had some time off for the weekend and the next week he stuck the job out till the Wednesday. So working this out he has now trousered a cool fifteen grand for each day he was in work. Not bad going that.
Thats the sort of money some of our footballers make, top city folk, certain corrupt politicos and leaders of the nations industry.
In effect he has made thirty quid for every minute the chap was in work. Now I am sure that he did deserve some compensation for the fact he was given some hassle, either that or a fucking slap and told to grow the fuck up you dull cunt, but and this is a big but here. No way should he have got 120K for a few remarks. Now he took a job as a salesman, a line that has always been a tough trade, you often don't get paid if you don't get the sales and its pressure pressure pressure, sell sell sell. Banter -often rude/crude and offensive take place in work environments. Not excusing it, it happens plain fact of life.
I wonder how Mr Jonah Ditton, from Paisley, would have coped had he had to endure a call centre environment? Having done that game for many a year - thankfully now escaped to greener fields! - I can say that each day you get the odd customer who thinks he can rip you a new asshole and throws lots of swear words in your direction. I think Mr Ditton was being a tad over sensitive here.
Yes you can warn an offensive customer and then hang up on them should they continue - often it is easier and far quicker to tune out the naughty words and try to resolve their problem . Me I learned to ignore it, hell colourful language was part of the game and I am sure many people who work damn hard in the (few remaining in the UK) callcentres will agree with that.
Mr Ditton worked at Glasgow firm CP Publishing Ltd, had to suffer the phrase "a wee poof", oh dear. Oh and suffered malicious and insulting abuse on a daily basis from his colleagues. One has to wonder if that was indeed malicious or office banter gone out of hand?
Employment lawyers said the ruling was a warning to firms that high pay-outs could be granted for discrimination even though employees had been with a company for only a matter of days. Nice to see the lawyers getting themselves some extra work there.
Mr Ditton, 32, brought the claim against CP Publishing, which publishes entertainment listings, under the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations, which came into force in December 2003.
Bloody hell this Ditton chap should get out a bit more, its called work, the real world. Not everyone is nice. One day he shall have to realise that the world is not all Enid Blyton. Hell I had a bloody grade a religious loon for a boss for four years, a woman with all the charm and social skills of a member of Waffen SS with PMT. Had I pulled her up on a tiny - and I mean tiny - fraction of the remarks she fired out at everyone 24/7 I could have had her arse fired in a moment. Simple fact is I a/gave as good as I got b/ had a job to do and got on with it.A few days later, Mr Paul allegedly asked Mr Ditton if he was from Stoke-on-Trent, rhyming slang for "bent".The media-sales manager told the employment tribunal that he did not think he would ever be the same again and had suffered depression for 18 months as a result of his treatment. Fuck me stick this Ditton chap up for a fucking Oscar, no seriously if that the worst insult he has ever had and it ends up driving him to depression, just think how bad it may have been had he called say a wanker, or maybe the word cunt for example?
Well fuck a duck - had I known it was that easy I would have thrown a hissy fit, jacked in me job and gone on long term sick years back. Then a quick call to Bottom Feeding Lawyers PLC and await my huge pay out.
He had expected to earn more than £80,000 a year, but instead turned to drink and had to rely on benefits following the harassment. Mr Ditton said he had been devastated by the insults and feared their actions would have an impact on any future employment.
Yes Mr lawyer could you please sue my former employer as I was insulted, some rude words have driven me to depression blah blah fucking blah.
Sit back and await large pay out....
"I do not feel my sexuality had any bearing on my ability to do my job," he said. No its just your over sensitive nature had a major bearing on your ability to work.
"They are foul individuals and they should be punished as much as possible." - So no hard feelings there then I see, never mind the 120K in your trouser pocket. But I am a victim, I wallow in my pain, woe is me. Tell you what Mr Ditton lets just execute them as well just to ease your pain.
"I was very upset and very embarrassed at what they did to me. These were grade-A insults in the workplace in front of people who are supposed to look up to you. My CV has been destroyed by them, all my future earnings have been affected." - No mate, they were not grade a insults, trust me I know a grade a insult when I hear one. Childish yes, silly yes, even offensive and homophobic if you wish to interpret it that way but grade a no.
Oh and your future earning are going to be okay for a while, as for your cv being damaged well only in the respect that you ran to the lawyers and pocketed 120K, I am sure any company is going to be a bit wary of maybe "offering insult" to you and being stung for another mother of a pay out.His award included £10,000 for injury to feelings, £76,937 for pecuniary loss, £5,291 interest and £26,081 for the company's failure to follow statutory procedures.
Don't forget that 120K sitting there will keep the utility bills paid for quite some time, oh and of course you can play the victim to the hilt as well. Nice chat with The Guardian, BBC, local papers, oh maybe a book deal - hell lets make a film and we can get Tom Fucking Hanks to play you in it.
Again nice work if you can get it. What a poof. Whoops guess thats another 120K he gonna get. If anyone thinks I have been hard on this wee poof, to quote what his ex boss was supposed to have said then think on this.
The widow of DC Oakes got just 13K when her husband was killed in the line of duty helping stop a terrorist. Yet this whiney fucking prick gets 120K, fuck him. Fuck the lawyers and fuck everyone who allowed this fucking farce to go ahead, shame on the fucking lot of them. Most of all shame on Jonah Ditton fucking prick that he is.
widow of policeman gets less than some over sensitive prick who cant handle a days work

8 days at £30 a minute. Damn. It's enough to make you want to start uphill gardening, isn't it? Well, almost.
Yeah not a bad rate of pay, still just don't call him a poof!
