The decision by the Welsh Arsembly(and copied below)
Date of decision:
25 June 2007.
Statement of information:
Skanda Vale TB reactor bullock
Under section 32 of the Animal Health Act 1981 (as applied by Article 4 of the Tuberculosis (Wales) Order 2006), Ministers have discretionary powers to cause to be slaughtered any animal which is (or is suspected of being) infected with TB, or which has been exposed to the infection of TB. In exercising this discretion, Ministers are required to act in accordance with EC law and the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR).
A bullock kept by the Community of the Many Names of God, Skanda Vale was confirmed as a TB reactor on 27 April 2007. The policy of the Welsh Assembly Government, in common with many other countries, is that cattle which have tested positive for TB should be slaughtered to protect public health and the health of other animals. The Community has made representations to Welsh Ministers requesting that they exercise their discretion not to slaughter the bullock in this case.
In making this decision, the Welsh Ministers are required to comply with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Article 9 ECHR protects the right to religious freedom, which includes the freedom for an individual or community to manifest that religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance. Article 9(2) ECHR provides that the freedom to manifest one’s religion or beliefs shall be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety, for the protection of public order, health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.
The Sustainability and Rural Development Minister is accordingly being asked to decide how the Welsh Assembly Government should deal with the TB reactor at Skanda Vale, in light of the Welsh Assembly Government’s normal policy and its obligations to comply with the ECHR.
Even Skanda Vale have admitted that the cause is lost and quite rightly so. New age tree huggers admit its a lost cause, but still squeeze some free publicity out of it.
Above we see the Hindu supporters of Shambo, praying for its life. A round of "Kum by yah" no doubt doing the rounds there.
Of course as you can see they are mostly white, middle class chattering class types, who drive a Volvo(which is offset as they follow a green lifestyle don't ya know - oh and the Volvo is scandinavian so it must be eco-friendly) and they need it for the school run of course, well little Tarquin and Angelstar cant use public transport along with the family's and children of the plebs; then bang on about the rest of us being evil for our once a year trip to the Costa Del Pissed.
One can be sure that they are all modern parents and as committed environmentalists, you can bet they all support public transport, but do not use it themselves because they have "Sensitive Persons Syndrome" or some such tin foil hat nonsense.
The same people who after banging on about being green, mention that they are also hindu, before banging on in a superior way about how small their carbon footprint is(a case of global smugness rather than global warming).
Like hippies everywhere they want to look deep and meaningful and so "get religion", alternative religion of course none of your monotheistic religions for them(after all they all start wars don't ya know and actually require some effort on the part of the people who follow them ) but something that allows them to follow the leftist world view of colletive group think, hatred of the US and the capitalist system and from the far east thus having that appeal of being non-western and so it allows them to look down at the rest of us, to protest against stuff without having to really do that old fashioned religion thing.
Now I blame John, Paul Ringo and co for starting all this nonsense back in the 1960's when they wandered off to India to do drugs and listen to some bearded chap explain the universe and its meaning to them.
Having listened to a few of these loons on the tv and radio they do tend to have a tendency to talk with their eyes closed and noses stuck in the air, as if they were preaching to the ignorant bigotted, meat eating nazi masses of unenlightened people.
**Update: Talking of bayin' madmen with beards, my loony lefty MP and proven libelist bleated on and on about the oppression of religion, the nasty police and the power of the farming lobby. Typical Nu Lab, no respect for the rule of law but never misses the chance to get some free pr. He whitters on about desecrated temples? This is hardly the middle east, or Kristallnacht! A legal warrant was served and the law enforced.
Here we see a shot of the "god" Shambo. If its smites the men from Defra then I am convinced its a god, if not then serve it up as a JD Wetherburger...
**Even people of their own faith think they are wrong on the tb reactor Shambo...http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/6917226.stm
A Hindu educationalist has said that monks protecting a "sacred" bullock due for slaughter after a positive TB test have interpreted the religion wrongly.
Jay Lakhani told BBC Radio Wales Shambo should be put down for the "greater good" and that farmers had considered that wider picture.
The credibility of the religion had been put on the line by the actions of the Skanda Vale monks, he said.
As John of Gwent said and this is the finest fucking quote on the whole Shambles, sorry Shambo affair: shambo the hindu god has about an hour and a half before he joins the great vat in the glue factory...Brilliant.
But will the carcass end up here: The Spoof, Shamo Mars Bars?
Last ever ever Shambo joke (we hope)
Why is Shambo greater than Jesus?
'Cos Jesus only managed to stay dead for 3 days!
okay one more
have you noticed how the weather has got better since the vets sacrificied
the holy TB ridden reactor? If we want a good rest of the summer lets go in
there and slaughter the rest of the blood-coughing holy herd!
*Well I have herd enough about Shambo, off to cover some udder subject. Need to go out so I' ll put a jersey on, it's Friesian out there! Anyway cheer up everyone now it has been confirmed as dead(some bad moo's from the BBC website), they can turn it into a game of fling the cow
Shambo's End? or maybe was this how they put Shambo down.
3 people have spoken:
What an arrogant / horrible person who wrote that article. Why is viewing [correctly I might add ]that all life is sacred including Shambo's an excuse for ridicule and mocking tones -- whoever wrote that article is offensive on so many levels
Can I claim a carbon off-set if I off Shambo?
To anon, listen hippy scum and I shall explain. Shambo had tb, therefore under UK law it had to be put down.
The middle aged, white suburban "religious hindu's" were the ones opposing the law.
Many farmers have to have their cattle culled on a routine basis, foot & mouth and tb outbreaks and you here not a peep in the media from them.
This whole event was a pr stunt on the part of Skanda, along with certain politico's who look to get some free headlines.
Oh now onto a decent reply, not sure if you can claim a carbon off set for offing Shambo, but as the carbon offset rules so open I can see why not Blazing.
