THE foot and mouth outbreak will bring fear to every farmer in Britain, it was predicted last night.
More than six million animals had to be slaughtered when the highly infectious disease took hold in 2001 — costing the country £8BILLION.
Experts at a farm in Normandy, near Guildford, Surrey, were preparing to cull a herd of cattle after tests showed the disease was present.
And Tim Bonner, of the Countryside Alliance, said: “There will be horror across the rural British Isles. Every livestock farmer will wake this morning and be terrified.”
ests at the scene of the outbreak were carried out 24 hours after a farmer reported what he thought were symptoms in a cow.
A two-mile protection zone was immediately thrown up around the farm. And a six-mile surveillance zone was in place last night, with police and environment officials monitoring movement of animals.
Graham Brooks, of the British Cattle Veterinary Association, said: “I understand the cattle had lesions on them which may have been quite old so they may have been spreading infection for a few days already.
“It spreads very quickly. It can spread on the wind as well. These animals must be culled as soon as possible.”
Environment Secretary Hilary Benn was flying back from his break in Italy last night to mastermind the handling of the crisis.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has cancelled his holiday to chair talks. He held a video conference with the Cabinet Emergency Committee, Cobra, last night from his holiday hideaway in Dorset.
This morning he will be whisked to Downing Street, where he will hold emergency Cobra talks. Last night he had an “open-line” to Britain’s chief vet, Debby Reynolds, to discuss the outbreak.
A ban was imposed on the movement of sheep, cattle and pigs around the British Isles last night.
**Lets hope that Defra get this sorted soon, of course certain vermin who inhabit the House of Commons can not resist the chance to have a dig at the farmers, so over to proven liar and libelist MP Paul Flynn on how he passes the blame back to farmers.

Bioterrorism?
In most of the muslim world foot and mouth is endemic. It would be the simplest thing to get hold of contaminated meat and smuggle it in. You needn't be a microbiologist to wage this type of biojihad.
Of course it isn't as spectacular as bombing 'dancing slags', but it does massive amount of damage to the Kuffar economy without harming muslims (how many muslim farmers are there in our once green and pleasant land?)
