Let the Gurkha's stay.

From The Daily Mail

Lawyers for 44 Gurkha veterans who served Britain but cannot live here have made an impassioned plea for them to be given residency.

They are bringing test cases against the Home Office to contest the ruling that Gurkhas who retired before 1997 must show they have 'strong ties' to Britain to gain indefinite leave to stay. Hundreds have been refused. But those who retired after 1997 are almost always allowed to stay.

Solicitor David Enright told an immigration tribunal in London: 'Entry Clearance Officers should have considered war wounds, decorations won in battle, swearing allegiance to the Crown, serving for decades, guarding the Queen - in the same way your fathers and grandfathers served the Queen - and paying income tax for years.

You could not find stronger links than these. What stronger ties can there be than with these Gurkhas who have given sterling service to Britain over 200 years?' The 44 veterans have more than 100 medals and 700 years of service between them. Campaigners are urging judges to overturn the ban, which affects an estimated 25,000 Gurkhas.

Supporters say only a fraction would want to stay, adding that the figures are tiny compared to the 600,000 illegal immigrants in Britain.

The soldiers have served the Crown for almost 200 years and more than 45,000 have been killed fighting for Britain since World War I began..

Gurkha hero Tul Bahadur Pun, 84, who received the Victoria Cross for single-handedly storming a Japanese machine gun in Burma in 1944, sent a message of support from hospital, where he is recovering from a stroke after being allowed into Britain for treatment following a public campaign.

He said: 'I know the sadness Gurkhas feel when they are told they are not welcome in Britain because they do not have strong ties.'

**I would rather have these hard working people allowed to stay here in the UK, rather than the hoards of illegals who come to this land for benefits and then plot to kill us. Mind you if there was something in this for the turds who infest Parliment then you can bet the Gurkha's would be allowed to stay in no time at all.
