Defence Secretary Des Browne has been heavily criticised after failing to attend a service to honour the Battle of Britain heroes.
He angered RAF veterans by snubbing the memorial service to the 1,441 fliers killed or injured in the country's "finest hour" in 1940.
They claimed it was an insult to the brave pilots who defeated the Luftwaffe 67 years ago, against overwhelming odds.
Mr Browne made a grovelling apology, and vowed a minister will be at all future services.
**Only because he was caught out. Had he cared in any way he would have gone to the event. Mind you even when New Labour politico's turn up at such events, they hardly have their mind on the issue. Just look back at former Deputy PM John Prescott who took time out to shag his cheap as skank rather than remembering the troops.
Hundreds of armed forces personnel past and present packed Westminster Abbey for Sunday's annual service.
Senior officers from the RAF, Army and Royal Navy were there along with the Prince of Wales and four RAF Tornado fighter jets staged a fly-past at 1,000 ft as a mark of respect.
But shadow defence minister Gerald Howarth and Ulster's First Minister Rev Ian Paisley were the only MPs present.
Tony Hirons, of the Royal Air Force Association, said: "I cannot remember a service in recent years where a Government representative hasn't been present.
"It's an astonishing snub."
**Well typical New Labour aproach to be honest, we shall not turn up and issue an apology if anyone notices.
Mr Howarth said: "Des Browne's absence was a very serious reflection on the priorities of Gordon Brown's Government."
**Nor is this the first time a minister has decided that counting paper clips is more important than the armed forces and remembering the fallen, anyone remember when Veterans' Minister Derek Twigg said he was not going to the Falklands anniversary because of the archipelago's 'unpleasant' and 'chilly' weather during their winter. He will stay 8,000 miles away in summertime London.
And here is some more on how New Liebour expect our troops to fight on a shoe string budget.

TROOPS wounded in Afghanistan are being flown home in sheets and towels because top brass have scrapped free pyjamas, it emerged yesterday. Our Boys have nothing to wear in hospital and so are making the long flight back in “an assortment of unsuitable gear”, sources revealed. Some British soldiers are even taken to board RAF planes in gowns borrowed from the Canadian army but then have to hand them back. Last night campaigners branded the “Yes, we have no pyjamas” scandal “appalling and humiliating”. And four mums revealed they are to hold a jumble sale to raise money to buy pyjamas, shorts and T-shirts for injured heroes. Tags: New Labour
Amoral bastards the lot of them, snivelling gutless cowards not fit to like the boots clean of the soldiers they treat with contempt.

This is typical leftist thinking, bite the hand that feeds, viciously bite the hand that protects.
Good caption..
Its a shame that our troops can not strike as if they did half the nation would come out in sympathy with them.
