TV psychologist Tanya Byron is to head a government inquiry into protecting children from violent computer games and internet pornography.
**Yet more government interference, by god is there any part of our lives that the uber-state doesn't wish to stick its nose? One has to ask what ever happened to letting parents decide on what their offspring watch and how much is this going to cost the hard put upon taxpayers of the UK?
The presenter of the BBC's The House of Tiny Tearaways and Little Angels will talk to parents and the entertainment industry about how to achieve this.
Dr Byron said it was essential that children's use of the internet was made "positive and safe".
**It already is, it just requires that parents do their job of watching what their children do whilst on line. That is the job of a parent, not the states job.
**Right, so lets see if I have got this right. The government is going to use a "tv celeb" to chat to tv types and parents about this. Now aside from the waste of money on this, the basic point with children and the internet is that they need to be monitored.
Same with video games, follow the games age rating and don't use the X-Box as a babysitter on the cheap. I think I can see whats going on here, lots of pr fluff from the government, lots of pr fluff from everyone else, the chance to get on tv/in the papers for a few concerned parents no doubt with their offspring in tow.
Again I shall state that it's not the states place to watch over children, its the parents or some other appropriate adult. Oh and as for the violent computer game bore, fucking hell I thought we had heard the last about that with Manhunter. But no seems that this dog eared subject is being dragged up again.
Couple of points: 1 they have age rating on them already and 2/It is down to the parents to say no.
A very good piss take of this is at Chicken Yoghurt
Not that I can fault Dr Byron on this, after this she is sure to land a few more jobs with tv types, she has landed a no doubt huge cheque thanks to Gordon Brown and I am sure another book or three will be winging their way to the shops in the next few years.Tags:Dr Tanya Byron

I can't really remember a time before I played violent video games. Must have been from age 3 or 4. I discovered porn at primary school so no later than 11. I turned out alright... I think...
Isn't it a bit, well, mad, that you can have sex at 16 but can't buy porn or Apocalypse Now until 18! You can join the army and go off to war and see men blown to pieces as they scream for their mothers and get your own head shot off, but you can't rent Starship Troopers for another two years!
Yeah I always thought it a tad strange that someone could lay down their life for Queen & country, yet can not buy a porn mag or legally have a pint of beer.
Mind you its just a bit of pr fluff from Gordon & co not really designed to do anything other than gather in some votes.
