Teachers - Opposing the troops.

The old saying of those who can do and those who can not teach has been proven again by the assorted comrades of the National Union Teachers as demonstrated here. They want to ban the MOD from giving talks to students on a potential career in the military, because they use "misleading propaganda".

Apparently they don't give a true enough picture of life in the armed forces, acording to the good comrades of the NUT the youth don't seem to be aware of the dangers.

Here are some of the comments from one of the so called educators:

Paul McGarr, a teacher from east London, said
only when recruiting materials gave a true picture of war would he welcome them into his school. - That would be a true picture according to Mr McGarr not anyone based in the real world.

These would have to say: "Join the Army and we will send you to carry out the imperialist occupation of other people's countries," Mr McGarr said. - An imperialist occupation that was organized by a certain Tony Blair PM, with the full backing of the comrades in the Labour party backed up with his lies over the dodgy dossier. 45 minutes anyone?....

"Join the Army and we will send you to bomb, shoot and possibly torture fellow human beings in other countries. - Much like the lovely Al-Queada chaps who are all of course just nice people deep down and would never engage in torture or mass murder like say flying a plane or two into packed buildings....

"Join the Army and we will send you probably poorly equipped into situations where people will try to shoot or kill you because you are occupying other people's countries. - That would be poorly equipped thanks to bean counting on the part of the same Labour government. Then that same Labour government that wants to censor coroners who speak out about their lack of equipment for the troops.

"Join the Army, and if you survive and come home, possibly injured or mentally damaged, you and your family will be shabbily treated." - By that same Labour government who are bean counting again.

Executive member Martin Reed said young people should have the means to make an informed choice when deciding whether or not to sign up for an Army career - Because no ever thinks that a life in the army might actually involve having to fight....
As I said those who can do, those who can't teach and go to NUT conferences and motions like this. Sadly they blast the military whilst ignoring the fact the wars(Iraq/Afghanistan) they oppose were started by the very government that they will be voting for next election...

Such a shame they had nothing to say on the troops humanitarian work in helping out after disasters around the world, their role in the UN helping to keep the peace and all the good work that they do not just for us but for oppressed people around the world...

No wonder this country has high illiteracy rates when children are being taught by numbskulls like this.

The scary thing is that there are thousands of union officials who say the right words and tick the right boxes to grease their way up the pole of career politics.

Heavens forbids, if there is a future nu-labour government after this one gets kicked out, you might see Mr McGarr in a cabinet role.

As a former teacher for forty years, I take personal afront to the "Can do -do cannot do-teach".
Your message did not need to generalize. I agree with you that protesting the military info seesions was probably not done correctly, but wrongs do not make a right.

Ah the left Fido, bite the hand that feeds, while the most scorn and contempt is reserved for the hand that protects. I only wish someone would keep a record of these vermin and if war were to unfortunately visit your shores again, they might be pushed to the front. Let the scum fend for themselves.

The sniveling cretin, whom was wheeled out by "Auntie Pravda" to voice N.U.T, concerns at M.O.D propoganda methods is;

One Paul McGarr, unsurprisingly enough - just to the left of Stalin, as illistrated so clearly here;

Well, I don't think the rank and file think much of the NUT either.

Like most quangocracies, it's disconnected from what it's members want this is (mostly)

- less pointless bureaucracy
- deal with the dreadful behaviour problem
- stop moving the goalposts every five minutes
- shoot all the education quangoids

and not, as you might think, salary increases. The NUT and other unions will do nothing about this (I reckon it's in hock to Labour) but will mouth off about everything else.

virtually no-one cares about this AFAICS. Teachers divide roughly into two groups on the Army ; firstly those who really don't approve but think pupils should be allowed to choose and secondly those who think it's better than being on the dole for forty years, the realistic alternative for many pupils.

The lefties of course don't approve and don't think people should be allowed to choose. These people engage in Union Politics and go to NUT conferences.

There are several threads on the TES board along the lines of "this cretins make us look stupid". Not much disagreement there either.

I see that the anti-military, 1960's vintage Peaceniks who have tried to shut down all of the recruiting stations in the US -- starting in Berkeley, Calif -- are busy at work Across the Pond. Good luck to you and best wishes from a concerned Yank.
PS: Hi MK!

Wasn't it Kipling who had that poem.."Its Tommy this and Tommy that" about denigrating the soldier in time of peace? Well the asshole civians have not changed in 100 plus years, either here in the US or over the pond there, sigh.
