Lauren Booth - Having a dont you know who I am moment...

Now this made me laugh, oh yes long and heartily.
She arrived in Gaza on a "peace boat" ten days ago carrying human rights activists who wanted to draw attention to the tight blockade imposed in Gaza by Israel. But when the boat left last Thursday she decided to stay.
Now the Israelis let them land without papers and hold their protests and then most of said protesters left, except for Booth and some others and this is where it gets funny:

"When I went to the Israeli checkpoint I was threatened with being shot four times," she said from a house in Gaza City.

"And when I went to the Rafah crossing (into Egypt) I had all the permission lined up at the top level but a lowly official stopped me from leaving."

Lowly official, you can just imagine the look of total outrage, the howling and shouts of "don't you know who I am?" along with threats of getting my sisters Tone to sort out that bloody lowly official.

I wonder if she called him a jumped up clerk or some such or demanded to speak to his boss? Either way he refused to budge.

Oh well done to that lowly official by the way.

But she seems not to have learned any diplomacy in her enforced stay:
But she accused Israel of breaking the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which enshrines the right of an individual "to leave any country and to return to his country".
Maybe they will threaten to shoot her again? Now she decided to stay having entered the place illegally and failed to comply with the Israelis, who consider her to have broken the rules.

Hence they will have a bit of fun an piss her about somewhat by refusing to let her out. Oh the Egyptians probably have as little time for busy body peaceniks as the Jews and are doing the classic shrug the shoulders and ignore the problem, saying it’s not their problem as Gaza is Israeli territory.

Now I would imagine that one Tony Blair who has most likely had to listen to his wife's sister bleating on about his evil policies at one to many dinner parties is having a quiet chuckle at this one. Mr Blair is reported to have refused to intervene, saying the people at the British Consulate are doing a fine job.

Oh yes, I am sure that he will be hoping that the British Consulate moves at a slower than usual pace on this one. He must be hoping that the speed of progress is on the geological time scale...

I have to say that it is nice to see both Israeli and Egyptians working together for a common aim, in short to let this silly woman click her heels and stew for a goodly time.

The former PM's wife's sister stuck in Gaza.

Who says that its all doom and gloom in the Middle East?
