A Labour parliamentary candidate is under fire over claims that party members were unaware she had a police record when they picked her to fight a key seat.
Janet Oosthuysen narrowly beat Cherie Blair’s stepmother Steph Booth in July to win the nomination for the Labour-held seat of Calder Valley in Yorkshire.
A year earlier she had been cautioned by West Yorkshire police for scratching the bodywork of her ex-partner’s car.
Now South African-born Ms Oosthuysen faces allegations that some local Labour Party members did not know the full facts when she was selected.
She confirmed last night that she had been cautioned but claimed she had not disclosed the incident to party activists because there had been ‘no opportunity’ to do so.
‘I was never asked the question. I would have said “yes” had I been asked. I do not lie,’ she insisted.
She said the end of her relationship with former boyfriend Craig Moore had been ‘a very difficult part of my life’ and that she had ‘co-operated fully with the police at the time’.
**She doesn't lie, however she also fails to disclose that she has been cautioned.
Not a lie just not mentioned. With an attitude like that she will fit in well with the champagne socialists of New Labour.
