'The recession will be over by Christmas,' - According to Alistair Darling.

Apparently our odd hair/eyebrow combo chancellor thinks he is on track an all is well...
Chancellor Alistair Darling predicted the recession will be over by the end of the year, despite more grim economic figures expected today.

Mr Darling dismissed criticism that his Budget forecasts were too optimistic and insisted the economy will return to growth by the end of 2009.

'I am not going to change my forecasts. I remain confident that we will see a return to growth at the turn of the year,' he told The Times.

His predictions are out of step with other forecasts, with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warning the economy could continue to shrink by a further 0.4 per cent next year.

Apparently Mr Darlings "special advisors" Mr Pocket Rabbit and "Invisible flying squirrel" told him he was doing fine.

'I delivered my Budget statement four weeks ago... None of the figures I have seen since would change the projections that I have made,' he said.

Both Pocket Rabbit and Flying Squirrel are in full agreement with me added Darling.

Darling also quoted one of his ancestors who said that he was totally right in saying that World War 1 would be over by Christmas and the nasty Huns had been seen off in just a few weeks by the brave British Tommy.
