A highly controversial crackdown on immigrants accused of abusing welfare handouts is to be unveiled by Home Secretary Alan Johnson this week.
The move could affect up to 80,000 immigrants who are allowed to settle permanently in Britain each year after marrying a UK citizen.
So Alan, who has no effective control over this lands boarders, thinks that announcing this will make them "tough on Ali, tough on the causes of Ali" and more importantly gather votes for New Labour, show that they are in charge of immigration.
Postman wants to scrap indefinite leave to remain, well good luck on that one. Seriously I can see a Human Rights case heading to the Eu on that.
He intends to force immigrants who use marriage to get into the UK to take a citizenship test. They will not be allowed to take it for at least five years and if they fail, they will be banned from receiving benefits. Again another pie in the sky policy, that will only apply to new migrants, not those already here.
Expect lots of sabre rattling from New Labour on this, whilst failing to layout a timetable and planning to shelve it all very quickly should the Muslim Council of Great Britain kick up a stink.
After all, they need the muslim vote come election time, Inshalla!
